Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Posted by arlene7 @arlene7, May 27, 2020

Has anyone taken Evenity? I understand it’s only been on the market for a little over a year. I’m hoping it will help with my severe osteoporosis. Any information is helpful.

Debra’s,
What were your Reclast side effects like? I’m on Evenity and may have Reclast in my future.

Susan,
While on Evenity did you have to have any dental work done ? If so any problems ? I am on Evenity and this is one of my fears.

Your doctor should know.

In Keith McCormick's book "Great Bones," he says the standard time from last Prolia to first Reclast is 6 months, but that blood testing should be done to be assured that the timing is right for the individual. Maybe the same is true for starting Evenity??????

Kristie2,
I’m still on Evenity. I went to dentist before starting Evenity. She said I was okay to start the drug.
I also saw my neurologist who ordered a brain mri and a carotid artery ultrasound. Also, saw cardiologist who said he was okay with Evenity.
So far, so good.
I’m starting to think about what I’m going to take after.
The oral meds may be a problem as I have GERD.

My crown broke off and had to have an oral surgeon remove my tooth from under the gum line. I did not want to do but 13 years ago I had had a total hip replacement and was afraid if that tooth got infected under my gum that it would go to my hip. That would create a misery for me as they have to take your hip out and it has to heal just to redo the procedure again. I had already had much bone missing in my jaw joint due to a broken jaw many years ago. My oral surgeon told me that he could fix the problem if one occurred and he knew what to do about it. So far, no problems but I am aware if it goes South.

I did the 12 shots of Evenity ending in July 2023. This drug has added new bone. I am supposed to take the Prolia shot now twice per year. It is harding the bones with what the Evenity shots created. I get the first shot of Prolia next week. My back surgeon feels that my bones are strong enough now to finally do my infusion surgery to fix my back due to my injury two years ago. I still can't stand or walk over 4 or 5 minutes.

@dianestanley Evenity and Prolia are made by the same company and the site tells docs to follow Evenity with Prolia. The question is, how are you going to get off Prolia? If you are old enough that may not be a problem 🙂 But if not, you will have to go on Reclast anyway and the timing of that is very tricky in order to avoid the quick bone loss and increase in fracture risk from going off Prolia. This is all info from my doc and also covered in McCormick's book "Great Bones." Wishing you luck. I am the same point and with kidney disease may end up on Prolia due to no other options, but am first trying a small dose of Reclast. I cannot take alendronate due to GERD. No good options!

I know. The whole Osteoporosis thing is crazy. Everything contradicts everything and there are no good answers for anyone. I am 70 but I don't want to take Prolia as long as my doctor has informed me. I hope they will have something good after Prolia. I just know that I don't want to live another two years of living in my chair. I feel blessed to finally being able to get my back fixed.
