Has anyone had success in stopping or reversing degener disk disease?

I'm at the point in my life where I'm starting to get scared for my health. Mainly my spine health. I'm 47 and was extremely active into my late 20s. LOTS of sports. I miss doing those things so much. I've had a c5-6 fusion, t11-12 cord compression issues and surgery, and last year temporarily lost the ability to walk and needed surgery at L5-S1. I recently found out I need my T11-T12 surgery redone for compression myelopathy. I'm honestly scared and that is saying a lot about me! My mother is basically homebound due to this condition and I just can't live my life like that. I need answers and an MD up for the challenge. If anyone in the world can do it, its Mayo!

Have you or anyone else heard of Disc Centers of America. We went to one last December. The chiropractor didn't like the MRI that my local hospital took, so he sent me for a CT scan. (I can't have an MRI due to an adapter on my replaced spinal cord stimulator). He showed us my CT scan and pointed out all kinds of disc problems...bulging, herniated, and whatever else was wrong. None of this was ever revealed on any MRI. He really gave orthopedic surgeons a walloping. He told us with his "special" spinal decompression machine along with certain supplements, that he could have me back to be totally or almost pain free. But, treatments were not covered by medicare. All out of pocket. 30 treatment plus supplements were normally $9600, but the special price was $6900. All up front (payments could be made through a finance company that he was affiliated with,
So, again, anyone out there have any experience with this outfit? I opted out because, as it is often said, "If it sounds too good to be true, ...".

Thanks for the info. I honestly stopped reading after you mentioned chiropractors. No one should go to a chiropractor if you have disk and spinal disease. Or ever. LOL

Well - I typically shy away from controversial interactions on-line...but I can't help myself. Go to a neurosurgeon at a top hospital and stop subjecting yourself to whatever manipulations and under-educated diagnoses you're getting from a chiropractor. I would RUN away from a "doctor" whose main selling point is that he has a special discount available!!! The very fact this hocus pocus medicine is not covered by any sort of insurance may be an indicator of the treatment's efficacy. And I said neurosurgeon and not orthopedic surgeon.

I have been to 4 or 5 chiropractors in my life. I can say that the only thing they did for me was to take my insurance company's money. I pretty much gave up on these guys when one of them was going to help me with some condition by pointing some kind of laser at my forehead. I suppose there are some issues that they are able to help, but for the most part, they keep coming up with new gadgets to help with your pain. At least the last guy I went to was honest enough to stop ineffective treatments and issue the refund.

If you’ve got hereditary leanings toward these types of illnesses I’d lay off sports that will injury me. The more procedures you have over the years the more post surgical complications occur. I’m not referring to life threatening ones but small ones like scar tissue that builds up over the years. People have adhesions secondary to surgery that cause issues and pain years away from the procedure. If you’re worried about your back go to physician therapy and obtain a solid core building home exercise program (HEP) and don’t ever stop it. I’m 71 with osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, peripheral neuropathy, and chronic pain syndrome. I had a fusion in 1990 after a 1988 fall in an earthquake. I walk minimum 2 miles day, do my HEP 2x day and use buprenorphine patches for pain and cannabis for breakthrough pain. Do yourself a favor and take good care of your back now and it will serve you well in the future.
