How does one find a qualified caregiver? I possibly need one for stemcell transplant 24/7 for 6 weeks in Rochester.

Hi Lori
What were your essentials list to bring. I've written my own list, but you may have other things I haven't thought of.

Hi Beverly. Oh the lists we make pre-transplant. ☺️ I can so relate and so can a lot of our members. We’ve had quite a discussion in the past over what to pack for our lengthy stays in another city. Some of us have had Allogenic transplants using donor cells so our stays were longer. Autologous transplants, using your own cells has a little speedier recovery time so you won’t stay as long. But the needs are very similar.

I believe you’re heading to Mayo-Rochester so I think you’ll find the comments helpful in the link I’m posting below.
There was a new post started by last month by @jstpeachey regarding her autogenic transplant and what she may need. So this will be a timely discussion for you to follow to check against your notes:

You’ll see my lengthy comment first. It’s filled with references/links to other discussions of what to bring along for transplant stays. Then you can read the replies from other members who contributed to the lists.
It can seem overwhelming but just take little ‘bites’ one day at a time and it will all come together.

Do you have your lodging arranged? Any specific questions?
.

Hi!!
I'm headed to Mayo Rochester, no official date set. But Transplant Dr mentioned late October/November. I'm looking at Gift of Life transplant house. They are looking at donors for me. I have a caregiving Team set up. I did hire a Mayo retired nurse for the first month & friends/family for rest of time.

Hi @bevprescott, I saw your question to @loribmt and thought you might appreciate these earlier discussions in the Transplants support group. I invite both you and Lori to add your ideas and bring these topics back into action to gather more tips.

- Packing question: What did you have ready for "the call"?
