Is it okay to microwave nebulizer or in baby bottle sterilizer?

Posted by terryb1 @128128terry11t, May 17, 2017

Was calling some number today to order a few more nebulizers so that if I go away, I won't have to keep cleaning/sterilizing (great suggestion obtained from the forum). I happened to ask the question: "Is it all right to microwave nebulizer in steam bags or in baby bottle sterilizer equipment?" The gal replied an emphatic "no". I was not clever enough to ask why ... suppose plastic might melt or give off something toxic?? Person went on to say that they only recommend boiling (for 5 minutes) or soaking in 1part white vinegar to 3 parts water for at least 30 minutes. I wish that I could find the number that I called but anyone may verify by going on internet and calling a number or live chatting with someone from a reputable nebulizer company. Please advise if you get a different response. Hope that this is helpful.

I soak my stuff in dishwashing liquid and a capful of bleach....and hot water. I put my morning apparatus in the bowl, then in the evening after my second session, I put all that apparatus in the bowl. An hour later I rinse it all in hot water, really good. I lay it all out in a long, pyrex dish (one layer).

Meanwhile I boil a large pot of water on the stove for about ten minutes. Then I pour the boiling water over all the pieces in the dish. (I cover them completely. ) I let it sit til the water cools. I shake each piece out really good, lay them all on paper towels, and let them air dry. I cover them with another paper towel, cause we have a lot of dust in our house. The next morning everything is dry, and clean as a whistle. (I found that frequent boiling of the items was deteriorating them, even though the directions said it was ok.) I came up with this routine and it's working great for me. Easy, peasey!) Bon

It is all so confusing. I am going to National Jewish in July and will definitely ask them for a definitive answer ... if there is such a thing. There are still websites that recommend using the baby bottle sterilizer with nebulizer. Who knows! It certainly would make things a lot easier.

I used the Avent baby bottle sterilizer, but my gut told me there's too much moisture hanging around in there...it just didn't feel right for me. I could be way off base, but I usually follow my inner voice!!

I just posted how I do it now...it's titled "sterilizing equipment".......maybe it will be helpful for you Bon

Have you tried the baby bottle sterilizer? I have found that a real time saver. I wash and rinse each piece after using and put in the baby bottle sterilizer. After the last airway clearance of the day, I turn the sterilizer on and the next morning all are clean and dry.. (oh, I leave the top off after putting the 1dt ones earlier in the day

I actually do the same as raney everyday. I would be terrified to use bleach but we have to do what works best for us individually.

I am more confused than ever. My instructions were to wash neb parts and arobika in hot water with soap and rinse and let dry every day then sterilize once a week. My water is over 130 degrees. I use antibacterial dove dish soap. I use microwave bags and distilled water to sterilize. The hospital did not sterilize all this stuff every day (in particular the arobika). In fact they did not sterilize it at all during the week.

Avent...but I don't use it anymore, because it's all wet when it's done microwaving and I don't trust all that moisture.....by the time I take it out of the container....

I am really anal when it comes to keeping the equipment clean.....this system works for me....soaking in dawn and just a tiny capful of bleach..then rinsing later on in clear water....laying in my pyrex dish...and pouring hot, well boiled water over the whole thing. then i lay out to dry on a paper towel. It's quick, easy and I really think it's very clean this way. I think there are several different methods people use.

wow that looks neat, maybe i'll get a bololo..it dries the items. my avent doesn't dry them..it goes in the microwave and then they stay wet. so do you find yours are nice and dry when it completes its cycle?
