Constant Diarrhea
Anyone here have constant diarrhea? I practically live on lomotil pills. I know my nerves play somewhat of a role but not always. Some days I live in the bathriom.
I have never had a diagnosis for my problem.

Yes, losing contact or rather, having "friends" move away from one when they become chronically ill as we have, is a very hard pill to swallow. I am especially sensitive to the behavior of others because I have always strived to be a humanitarian, supportive of others in my community and things of that nature. I am also an artist with a typical "artist" personality which sometimes makes it even harder.
I see my PCP this week and am trying to decide whether to ask him what the purpose of the online message system is if he does not respond to many of my requests. I asked him a few weeks ago if we could increase my antidepressant because I was feeling hopeless and depressed, and he did not respond. I suppose I felt this way because I had to complete a very long questionnaire for the hepatologist I will see in March, and that question appeared on the form, and checked "yes."
Having said this, I will find a new PCP after I see the liver specialist in March, the very same one he told me I would never be able to see. Go figure that one out.
I have some close contacts where I live, one of whom is 84 and I go to her apartment every day, sometimes just to hang out because it is a good place to relax, something I am not very good at doing right now. I have an older sister who lives not far from me, but cannot discuss my medical issues with her because her 73 year old husband has dementia and she is under enough stress dealing with him. I do have another older sister, but 2 years ago she chose to cut me out of her life because of my medical problems. She said she only wanted to talk about recipes and things of that nature. I accept that. As long as I can maintain a relationship with my "big" sister, I am good.
I have other doctors who are very supportive toward me, so I know there will be another primary care doctor who is right for me. I am just dismayed that it has taken so long to get the right care and medical attention I think I need.
Best of luck to you. I really appreciate your nice and thoughtful note to me. Every little thing counts, but your response made my evening. Thank you

1 ReactionHang in there, experiment with eliminating possible irritants from your diet and advocate for yourselves. My GI has suspected I have Microscopic Colitis & biopsied for it for over 10 years, and it finally confirmed through a colonoscopy while I was in the hospital for constant diarrhea with severe pain.

1 ReactionHad weekly diarrhea and dr did a colonoscopy found nothing sand told me to get used to it as it was aging. My microscopic colitis from 2018 was no longer active per the colonoscopy biopsy. 6 months later diarrhea was increasing and eventually I had it everyday in July. Was waiting for opening at gastro office when friend mentioned gluten. I stopped eating white bread for one day (white bread for histamine intolerance) and my diarrhea disappeared. Went from daily to zero diarrhea. Neither pcp nor gastro dr ever mentioned gluten as the problem

4 ReactionsI had a similar situation.
After negative stool testing and bloodwork , Gastro doctor said my diarrhea could be stress.
I tried the Fodmap diet and can now pinpoint which fruits and vegetables to avoid, in addition to being gluten free and dairy free.
If I get loose stools, I take 1 Imodium tablet ( this happes about once every 4 weeks)
Recently I started taking 1 tsp of Meramucil dissolved in water,
stools sometimes being too soft and Metamucil seems to firm them up.
I hope this helps

2 ReactionsTry to see if. You are gluten sensitive. Stopped eating white bread for one day and my diarrhea stopped. Now at 3 weeks no diarrhea.

2 ReactionsSounds like an "Aha!" moment. You might find Dr. Tom O'Bryan's book, "You Can Fix Your Brain" helpful as he discusses gluten's role in brain health as well as gut health - as well as sugar and other factors. There are many other resources about gluten which might be of help to you - and to your PCP and gastroenterologist. ;->

1 ReactionSomeone told me MetaMucile and it helped for awhile but has started again
I had watery diarrhea beginning June 22nd for which I went to Urgent Care. I believed I had a cyclospora parasite infection and they agreed it was likely - there was an outbreak in my state. Unfortunately, the APRN there didn't realize the test for cyclospora is a separate stool test and she gave me the standard test, so the tests came back "not detected" for the 6 parasites tested. She also prescribed Bactrim which made me feel better in 24 hours, but did not stop the diarrhea. Bentyl helped a bit, but nothing - not Pepto, lomotil, several differnt probiotics, antihistamine, activated charcoal or Metamucil helped - until I found a reference to arsenicum album on the Mount Sinai homeopathy website. Within 24 hours the watery diarrhea was gone. I'm not typically a "homeopathy person", but it has been a dramatic change. With no side effects. I bought mine from Amazon. Boiron is the brand - the blue one - 30C. Not saying it will help everyone, but it's been a dramatic change. At $15+ it's worth a try. I thought I would never be normal again.
