**latest update** - Statin for Covid
I thought this info would be helpful since we NEED to keep in the know and whatever we can do for support in helping one another.
Since we now know Covid attacks are blood cells and is no longer a "lung" issue as originally thought, I came across some info on Gov site, immune and disease specialist's site as well as doctors reports that taking a Statin drug prevents severe Covid and hospitalization.
Oddly enough, between my friends, colleagues, neighbors and family who are on a statin drug, did NOT catch Covid, to include my brother who was in a household with folk who had Covid!
Per the report, since Covid causes severe inflammation in our body due to the virus attaching itself and attack our blood, the statin is preventing Covid from going rampant and attacking our blood cells.
I'm curious, how many folks on this site are on a statin? I'm guessing not many and those that are won't be on this site because they either recovered just fine or never got Covid.

I completed the full COVID vaccine regimen (boosters included), have also been on statins for many years, and still came down with COVID. I'm also dealing with long-term health problems linked to having been infected with the virus. Principal among these are injuries/damage to my central nervous and cardiovascular systems. So, I disagree with your assessment that someone like me has no reason to be on this site.

3 ReactionsI was on statin and 3 other relatives and friends too and we all got covid. Who knows in terms of reducing severity though? But think reducing severity is entirely different than preventing covid as one is dealing with preventing infection and the other mitigating symptoms? It helps if you link any study that is referenced...

1 ReactionYour post is very interesting. I'm motivated to look further into the relationship between COVID and statin drugs. I haven't come across anything on Medscape or other medical publications for professionals I read regularly. But I'm going to look further. Information such as what you referenced should at least be posted in specific so we too can access it. Would you please provide some of that information as a follow up post? Thanks for the info. Be blessed and be well.
I've been on statins for 20+ years. I caught covid just a few weeks ago and was fairly mild but lasted a long time. I now have acid reflux symptoms even on the statins and higher bp.

1 ReactionMy husband and I have been on statins for years. We both contracted Covid. We both have new or worsened medical issue due to the virus running rampant through our systems.
Statin may help some, like the vaccines may help some. One thing I have learned while having Long Covid for more than 5 years, is that no two systems react the same with Covid. What has helped with some of my issues, does not work for my husband or for others.
Keep sharing what you have learned. You never know who you may help with their after affects of Covid.

6 ReactionsWell...hoping you are recovering. It DOES affect the lungs...big time.Don't know where ya heard this at.Someone doesn't know what they're talking about.NAC is one of the BEST supplements one can take to help the respiratory system to heal.It IS a big deal in some.I'm on statins since 2003.5 years now with long covid.I'm way better...but not totally.Going in for hernia fix,and also gonna check for duodenal ulcer.Which I now believe is causing my stomach pain.Been hurting BAD since I got infected in 2020.Carafate stops it for a while. So I'm taking that as well...been doing that for 3 years.
Stay strong.Becareful who you listen to on the net...

1 Reaction@dragnwc19 you be here as long as you want.It hit my nervous system as well.Among several other systems. My cardio is diminished a bit,but hoping to get back to the gym this next year. With this deal, nothing is predictable.Except being sick;)For your cardio(lungs and all)you can take NAC to help your lungs and all to build back up.Been doing that for a few years now...I'm thinkin without that NAC,I'd be much worse.I'm not stopping it anytime soon.Take care...stay strong and have faith. It'll get better.
@dmldavis You be good to yourself.I feel ya.I'm forgetting things also at times.I forget to calm down inside and take a few deep breaths. That's when I start worrying that this is gonna get worse.I don't think it is...it's not like it was pre covid.Had the discussion again last night at work with a coworker/supervisor.Told him I felt terrible in my mind at times...not to mention the other things I told him.His response?"You're getting old".
He had covid at one time but healed up like a lot did.
sorry 72 is NOT old.I KNOW.This crap NEVER existed in my life before.NEVER did I lose 30 lbs in one month.Never did my appetite go nuts(NO APPETITE).Haven't been able to gain weight back still.I'm at 141 lbs.6'1".Been like this now for several years. This would have never happened if I hadn't got Covid when I did.
Don't I just wish! I've been on a statin since August 2021, and I've gotten Covid 3 more times and ended up with post-Covid symptoms after the fourth time. My husband has been on one also, at a higher dose, and he has also had Covid several times. Statins are not a miracle cure or preventative for Covid or for Long Covid. 🙁
