@me75

I’m having a large extensive back surgery September 21 so right now I’m taking 80 mg of Tymlos until I get the Forteo . I noticed with Tymlos I have headaches , weight gain and I hurt more than ever.I’m willing to put up with it so I can build up my bones for the surgery so tired of hurting all the time . Asking for prayers cause I’m 75 years old

@me75 I could not tolerate Forteo at all, but have tolerated Tymlos because the dose is adjustable. The Forteo pen only gives a full dose. I wonder why your doctor said Forteo has fewer side effects.

Everyone is different of course. Maybe your doc can explain. They may have reasons.

The Tymlos pen has "clicks" and if you start at 2 clicks and move up, many of us have found our bodies adjust. We also make progress at less than the full dose. My doc not only approves of this but has adopted this practice with his other patients at a top hospital.

Other things to try: if you take Tymlos in the evening, try in the morning and move around. Hydrate well. Maybe eat something salty if your diet allows. I keep a blood pressure cuff to make sure my bp is not too low.

Headache was my main side effect at first but it went away within a month and in the beginning was less severe when I adjusted the dose. I hope you can make Tymlos work, if your doctor agrees. It is very effective for spine.

Forteo is a very similar medication working through the parathyroid with similar side effects but the dose is not adjustable. Again your doc may have their reasons but hoping the Tymlos starts to be tolerable so you don't have to change!

@me75, I’ve been on Tymlos since June and have gained weight as well. Particularly belly fat. I’m glad to see that I am not alone with this issue. I contacted the Radius clinical coordinator to ask if weight gain was reported during clinical trials and she said no. So she will report it. Are you craving “junk” food? Do you feel hungry most of the day?
