Leg cramps at night
Hello everyone. I only have 4 more months on Tamoxifen and my 5 years will be up. I'm having bad leg cramps at night. Has anyone else had this side effect from Tamoxifen?

I buy frozen pickle pops or just drink a little pickle juice for cramps and so does my son. It works great for us. I’m not to have a lot of sodium so I don’t dink much and it really works for us. God bless and prayers for you🙏🙏🙏

2 ReactionsThe pickle juice sounds interesting. I don't know why my cramps stopped. Maybe they were mostly a side effect of my chemo for breast cancer. I'm doing fine now. I kind of forget things that bothered me in the past. Now my problem is my neuropathy in my feet from the chemo andthat isn' going to improve. As they say, I'm just happy to be alive at the age of almost 82. I can walk and even sprint if I have to.

2 ReactionsI had only wicked leg cramps with Letrozole and nothing seemed to shift them, no electrolytes or magnesium, nothing. One of the onco doctors said to drink Schweppes tonic water, I guess because of the qunin. It helped instantly. I would have gone on supplement instead of the tonic water to avoid the sugar but I was taken off Letrozole and Ibrance because they didn’t work anymore. Now on Xeloda and I have very little cramps and put up with it as taking all the other meds is already a full time job….

3 ReactionsPotassium does seem to help but you can get too much in your system pretty easily if you aren’t careful. This is especially true with diabetes. Magnesium powder in a drink is my go to first. Get too much and it can send you to the bathroom. Moderation is definitely key here.
@roewes07 and @sparklegram how are you doing with leg cramps now?
Hi auntieoakly! My leg cramps are much better. Still have them periodically, but nothing like before.

2 ReactionsLeg cramps taking Anastrozole. Tonic water and Magnesium have been very helpful. Careful with the Mag as it can cause frequent stools. Also stay hydrated (with tonic water lol)

1 ReactionI started Tamoxifen about 3 months ago and I also am having leg cramps that wake me up at night and sometimes happen in the daytime. My oncology team recommended I tried taking 1/2 of the pill in the AM and 1/2 in PM as well as taking magnesium glycerinate daily. I have been doing that for 2 months now with only occasional relief. I hydrate all day and before bed, but the cramps persist and now I wake up with pain in my right calf every day. It's like a hot soreness. No swelling or bruising though. I am supposed to take Tamoxifen for total of 5 years and really don't want to change to AI's (which is an option for me) because I already have some joint pain before BC and assume it would worsen the joint pain. I am a bit worried that it could be a blood clot/dvt but dreading going in for an ultrasound to find out. Also, I can feel strange sensations in my calfs of sort of a sputtering feeling along with the soreness.
any suggestions?
