Has anyone had a biopsy of their eyelid margin?

Posted by cudabinacontenda @cudabinacontenda, Jul 26, 2023

I’ve had a small (1mm) whitish, embedded teardrop-shaped lesion that extends from my eyeball to my lashes. My ophthalmologist said it looks like a stye that didn’t fully form and prescribed warm compresses qid, eyelid scrubs qid, and topical erythromycin at night. I’ve been doing this for nearly three weeks with no change seen in the lesions size or features. Has anyone had such a thing? Did you have a biopsy and how long after presentation? I understand eyelid-margin biopsies can be extensive and complicated, especially if the doc suspects sebaceous gland carcinoma. Can anyone share their experience?

You may ask any question of me. The first two years after diagnosis, I had full body PeT CT every 3 months. One time in the year they would do an additional skull one. Then the 3rd year, full PeT CT every 6 months. Now once a year, as long as I have no symptoms. I still have a dermatology check up every 6 months and get frequent biopsies of suspicious skin changes. How are you doing? Been this about you and praying you are staying healthy and hopeful.

Thanks for the thorough recap, dreams. It’s very helpful. I’m m so glad you’ve been clear of a recurrence.

A few years ago when getting an eye exam the Doc said the lesion under the lower eyelid was a stye but I was sure it wasn't. It started out as a small white lump like a white head and about 6 months ago I had a biopsy done and it is a basal cell cancer. Of course it has grown from the small white spot and I will have surgery to remove it. Am scared because it is so close to the eye. Not sure if the dermotoligist who does Mohs surgery should do it or an eye surgeon? Baz10

I’m sorry to hear you’re going through this, Baz10. BCC is, of course, the skin cancer with normally the lowest risk and best outcomes. I’d consult with either a MOHS or oculoplastic surgeon and ask their opinion. They’d be able to recommend a sub-specialist from the other category if they felt it best. Good luck and please let us know how it turns out.
