Treating Osteoporosis: What works for you?

Posted by heritage1955 @heritage1955, Apr 1, 2016

Hi. I'm new to the site and am interested in treating osteoperosis. I'm 39 yo and recently had a bone density that showed I'm at -2.4. So, going through the intial "I can't believe it" stuff. 🙂

colleen young or anyone with same problem. For more than 10 years I am unable to stand up from a sitting position. I don't feel pain, but for some reason I have to put both hands down on the chair and push up. A real problem in a public restroom. I have had no luck with any doctor being able to help. They just say they don't know why either. I've gone through therapy in 4 different locations and I can easily do 100 reps of 85 pounds pushing with legs. Can do that in five minutes. But, cannot step up on a curb or get up from a sitting position. I've wondered if it could be something in low back keeping me from being able to move. Does anyone know anything about this problem. Thank you

This is a puzzling problem. I'm sorry to hear that you have not found an answer or help. You mentioned the possibility of a lower back problem. Has this been investigated?
Have you consulted with a neurologist?

hopeful33250 ……. several orthopedics -- only back x-ray in which they said arthritis but didn't see anything extremely serious. Have not seen a neurologist -- perhaps I should..... thank you

I have taken both Forteo & Prolia. I have necrosis of the jaw probably from years of Fosomax, Boniva etc. Had my 1 st Prolia injection 6 mos ago & may discontinue d/t significant constipation. Had some back pain in the first month or so. Both of these symptoms are a puzzle to my MD as she has never heard of anyone having these although the Prolia website says these are the two most common reasons people discontinue. All this is very discouraging.

Since I 've been on Prolia, (2 injections, 1 full year) my longstanding irritable bowel-C (constipation) has become quite dreadful. Coincidental? My followup appt is next week, so I will let the endocrinologist know and see what she says. I also noticed that constipation is listed as a common side effect.

You can cure osteoporosis in several ways. The protein, calcium, vitamin D and exercise can treat your osteoporosis.

@johnduo32 cure and treat are two very different words.
