Foot neuropathy: What gives you relief?

Posted by kathrina @kathrina, Nov 5, 2019

It seems if I get enough activity/exercise daily I don’t have pain; if not, am awakened from sleep and must get up (even in the middle of the night). What’s going on & what more should I do to avoid rest-disruption?

When my feet are tired, I sometimes use a tennis ball (until my cat 🐈‍⬛ wants to play with it).
I also have a set of 2lb squishy (gel?) balls I got at Walmart for shoulder and hand exercises. I roll my feet around on these sometimes when sitting watching tv when my feet are tired. They are about the size of grapefruits.

I ordered the neurology rad ball today! Thanks, I think it will help.
My dog thinks ALL the balls are his- including my tennis ball!

I see that I ended with a (humorous?) misplaced modifier: It is the squishy exercise weight balls that are the size of grapefruits, not my tired feet. LOL.

I like using a RAD (little spikes) ball (Naboso makes these also) for a gentle massage of the foot, pausing at the reflexology points to give a little pressure. I leave the ball whole and simply, while seated, roll it under the foot, then manually do the same on the top of the foot. I don’t split it in halves and stand on it, as I’m not looking for tendon/muscle release, just an awakening of the foot. I do it first thing in the am, and last thing at night.
Naboso sells socks and insoles (different degrees of spikes) also, but I haven’t tried/needed those.

I also use the Naboso Neuro Ball with the spikes on my feet throughout the day. My neurologist agreed that the stimulation could be helping my recovery from peripheral neuropathy. That's a great idea to also use it on the tops of the feet. I'll try that.

I long time friend (acquaintance) suggested that I get a motorized wheelchair. I can't drive now not because of this condition but something else. I am so upset that my blood pressure went way up. Why can't people be supportive?????????
He's a medical doctor too.

He probably meant well. I agree that it's important to interact with supportive people who are positive and optimistic. I am recovering from peripheral neuropathy, which many might have predicted to be unlikely.

I have ordered, and yet to receive an "AkuSpike" mat to see if it benefits the neuropathy in my feet. Apparently, this mat https://www.akuspike.com/ is a step above other acupressure devices, in that "Aku products are meticulously designed with high-grade metal spikes that naturally stimulate energy flow throughout the body. When conductive metals, such as silver and copper, come in contact with the skin you'll experience a natural warming effect that is both healing and therapeutic."
I should receive this shortly, and will take it on a Caribbean trip in another week. I'll certainly report back to this forum, especially if I find it DOES actually work!

What are you doing that gives you hope for recovery?

Let’s start a list.

Your symptoms of foot neuropathy

Treatments which provide relief or ease if symptoms.

I have been diagnosed with foot neuropathy. My feet are cold especially when at rest and at night. When I walk in exercise my feet get stingy and moist. They can get painful.

I use 600 mg of alpha lipoid acid and topical creams like lidocaine and CBD (no thc) cream, arnica cream or oil. I do foot massage.

I wear wool socks and frequently warm my feet with a heated rice bag or warm water.

Seems like there is some level of discomfort throughout the day.

Help me find other things to try.

Best wishes to all who suffer.

There is no cure for neuropathy. It’s damaged nerves. Vitamin B’s help. But I’m sure your doctor did bloodwork and you know your vitamin deficiencies. Neuropathy also worsens with time and will move up your legs. I take gabapentin twice a day for the nerve pain but what really helps me is duloxitine. My neuropathy is from just above my knees on down to my toes. I find wearing Crocs or Skechers sneakers allow me to walk my best. I can’t walk far or stand too long. I’m best in a recliner with legs up. If you don’t have a rheumatologist, you should consider that as a possibility. There may be other things going on. Best regards for your improvement.
