Pulmosal vs normal hypertonic saline

My pharmacy has been having difficulty ordering Pulmosal, which is the only kind of hypertonic saline I've ever used. Has anyone tried both and found a difference, in efficacy or in irritation of the lungs? My pulmonologist prescribed it because she thinks it might be less irritating to my lungs, which I appreciate, but not sure if it really makes a difference

Interesting to read about nasal symptoms when nebulizing 7% saline. I've been using generic 7% or whatever they send. My nose used to get stuffy and eyes runny while nebbing. They no longer do. I wonder if the body gets used to it? Also worth noting that I have lots of environmental allergies, and undergoing allergy immunotherapy. My immune reaction has been robust, which is a good sign says allergist. Now that I getting to end of "shots" my nose/eyes don't react during nebbing. I wonder if there is some correlation.

When I first asked for 7% saline pulmonologist said patients reported it was harsh and did not want to give it to me. I pressed on, got a script and have never looked back. Simply could not clear without it.

When I originally asked my pulmo about 3 vs 7 he said the same thing but he would have prescribed it if i had asked for it! I cannot remember if he told me later on to try 7% or if I just did it on my own (ordered from Amazon)? But when I switched to 7% I had less exacerbations. It did help more than the 3% for sure. So I would not listen to that instruction and see how you tolerate the 7%. At first you might adjust to it. Now I have a prescription for Pulmosal 7% but I still use the Amazon brand also since I nebulize 1.5 vials in the morning session. I use one of Pulmosal and 1/2 of the Amazon brand afterwards just to extend my treatment time.

Hi irenea8. Would you mind letting me know which specific brand of 7% you order from Amazon? When I had checked recently there were different options. I actually had used 7% in the past (another pulm doc) and did fine with it so anxious to get back on it. Thanks much.

Hi Faye - My pulmo says the same, but shrugs and prescribes it anyway. I figure if NJH, Mayo and UT Tyler all say 7%, their collective experience tips the scale for me. My primary also told me she would do it if the pulmo didn't.

Hi Sue. Regarding our posts of July 14th about getting our pulmo doc to write Rx for 7% Sodium Chloride. I went ahead and purchased 7% from Amazon and began 4 days ago mixing 1/2 of 3% and 1/2 of 7% to get adjusted. Hopefully that I can use it without getting a strained throat feeling or too much coughing. It did bring on some coughing the first day but it only lasted for about 30-40 mins. The second day I did cough up a small amount of some dark green (formed) but nothing since. Will go to full 7% this next week. Thanks for all your wisdom. Faye

Getting 3% saline from my pulmonary doc is like pulling teeth. Not successful. He also said my mycrobacterium lentiflavin might go away. I waved goodbye to him. New apt on Thursday with Baptist Healthcare doc. He had never treateda patient with lentiflavin...
