Fibromyalgia Medication and treatment
I have been on the Mayo Connect for over six months. My symptoms point to the umbrella of things, Lyme disease, West Nile, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, and Chronice Fatigue. I have seen every doctor in my hospital system. Had every test and scans done. JUST MADE MORE $$ FOR THE HOSPITAL SYSTEM!
Yesterday I finally went to a Rheumatologist for a consultation on a blood test. When I expalined what I had been going through the last ten months he finally gave me a diagnoses. (First one after 10 months and 10 doctors.)There is a small chance I may have Lyme Disease, but to late to tell. He said he was sure it is Fibromyalgia. He said I should have been directed to him when it first started. (Again as many of you agree they put you through unecessay test and perscribe pills to make $$ for the industry.
So now that I finally have some direction to move, I need some advice, information, what helps, what causes it and such. He said he feels mine is in the area of sleep. Does this make sense to anyone? He is sending me to a sleep clinic for evaluation.
I know I have seen many postings about Fibromyalgia, but I guess it is the "Fibro Fog" that dosen't remember all.
I had been on Gabretentian but the side effects were worse than my pain! We are tryng Cymbalta. Can anyone let me know how it has worked for them. Anything to watch for?
As always this site is the Best! People are so honest and open about helping.
Thanks,
Sundance 🙂

I don't have depression, only pain in my jaw. I have no sleep problems, except for needing a cpap (sleep apnea). I sleep like a log. We are going to try Tegretol, because I seem to have some type of allergy to Progabapentin (my nose runs non stop all day).

I would not waste $ on a sleep study. Fibromyalgia CAUSES lack of restful sleep! I KNOW. I've had it for about 40 years. {I am now 80} Tried many RXs; none that really helped, and most I could not take. I now take Tramadol. It does nothing for back/hip pain, but it does help the fibromyalgia aches!! Now I would hate to be without it; just for that reason.
@dorma
Can you explain to me your symptoms of Fibromyalgia at 40 and what you think caused it?
I take it too for years. My RA doctor had me add 500mg Tylenol arthritis and it helps. I have fibro. Sjogrens, heart failure , kidney failure. Gout and more.
I had never heard of it before then. That particular doctor told me that it came from "living in hell for 24 years." I was shocked, since he knew very little about my life. LONG story there, so I won't share it, but it SEEMS that [at least in his eyes] that stress and anxiety is one cause. I really don't know. I do know that leaving that world behind did not really help with the pain and aches. It has escalated over the years, as it does with anyone. I finally reached the point that I simply had to have some medical help; thus all the prescriptions that did not work, and finally the tramadol. I was prescribed the tramadol for back pain, but it does nothing at all for that.
Just realized that I did not actually answer your question; I'm sorry. The fibromyalgia causes more fatigue, and aches/pains over my entire body. It kept me from sleeping restfully, due to the pain. Still...to this day...the extreme fatigue is worse than the pain. Some days it keeps me in the bed, but I also have other health issues that cause fatigue, so my guess is that me several issues together is what actually keeps me down. The fibromyalgia seems to affect nerve endings, for a lack of better explanation.
While we are talking about LDN (see other posts) fibromyalgia is suppose to be helped by it. I don't have it (as far as I know-stay tuned...) but it is in the research. So take a look.
I have been on cymbalta and considered it the worst drug I have ever taken. I was first diagnosed with CRPS 16 yrs ago but it really didn’t fit . Just recently a HSD a diagnosis with undiagnosed connective tissue issues. Too many problems to list . But I do understand what you have gone through as I have gone through the same. For me every side effect listed for cymbalta was experienced.
When the whites of
My eyes turned yellow I went off of it and it took my 3
Months to get off with awful itching . It was horrible. The only thing that helps me is opioids. Good luck . I know we are all different but had to comment bc it was the worst drug I’d been on !.
Ask Dr. about Mobic. It helps my neuropathy pain. My daughter also takes it for arthritis.
Gabapentin has crappy side effects. I take it for neuropathy. Good luck.
Agree about tramadol. Cymbalta helped my pain dramatically but it also raised my A1C. I am prediabetic so I had to stop it. Taking gabapentin and occasional Mobic.
