Anyone had a second liver transplant ????

the first liver transplant was done 3 years ago in Mayo Clinic. The new liver condition is CIRROSIS again, may be, I will have a second liver transplant if anyone received a second Liver could you contact me I wish to know any information on a SECOND LIVER TRANSPLANT

My 19yr old son just had a second liver transplant. He was born with Biliary Atresia and has his first at 8 mo old. Both were living donor, the first from his father and the second from a donor in the Liver Paired Donation Program.

My 19yr old son just had a second liver transplant. He was born with Biliary Atresia and has his first at 8 mo old. Both were living donor, the first from his father and the second from a donor in the Liver Paired Donation Program.

nice to hear this, I probably will have a second liver transplant the first one was done in May 14-2020. Doctor find out this liver is on a Cirrosis process and I am under medicines. Hope is the last thing but I pray every day and graceful with God. Your son will be fine he is too young and strong.

nice to hear this, I probably will have a second liver transplant the first one was done in May 14-2020. Doctor find out this liver is on a Cirrosis process and I am under medicines. I am sorry to hear that! How did your first transplant go? Did you have any complications? I hope you are not feeling too sick right now. Is your transplant team at Mayo Clinic? Ours is in New York City.

I had my first transplant 3 year ago, mostly with bile duct obstruction so they went inside duct 9 times then February 12-2022 doctor mentioned that my transplanted liver start Cirrosis again why they do not know so since that they keep me into medicine until this transplanted liver fail. How long I have to wait? I do not know meanwhile I keep the doctors direction and yes it my transplanted liver team was at Mayo Clinic in Arizona no complaint with them they are really good. I am living in Southern of California but my concern is do I have to still
follow rules in a waiting list? or second transplant is faster? well keep in touch with you and thank you

I am new to the Group, I was encouraged to participate in it by the question about who has already had a second transplant - my daughter's situation: first in 2003, the retransplant now in June 2023. My participation is a request for information on what is the basic Medical Protocol in the USA in cases of retransplantation ?, because I would like to see if it could help in any way in the postoperative period of this retransplantation of my daughter, done at Hosp-A.Einstein-Brazil, 36th place in the world according to American ranking: medicines used (here, Tracolimus is a sacred cow), level of hepatic compatibility cadaver donor-recipient, periodicity of medical follow-up and appropriate examinations, etc, etc. Thanks - mwb37

That is a lot that you and your family have gone through. Waiting in uncertainty is also very difficult. I believe that the the process for waiting for a second liver transplant is the same as the first. If you are a candidate for living donor and have a volunteer living donor who is a match, than you do not have to wait and the hospital can schedule it. The UNOS Liver Paired Donation is another option where you can schedule a transplant instead of waiting for a deceased donor. You can Google it.

Right now he has weekly appointments at the hospital where they do bloodwork, physical exam, and ultrasound. It will be every other week as things settle out for him more. Also, his main immunosuppressant drugs are myfortic, tacrolimus, and prednisone. He is in many others to counter side effects from those.

thank you for you respond, good to hear that you son has a privilege of second transplant, I am still under medicine Nadodol and Traculimus every day since 3 years when Mayo Clinic transplanted my liver. For a second transplant, do you have to follow the regular steps as MELD SCORE and waiting list?

my first transplant was done in 2020 but has Cirrosis again so in a future I will need a 2do transplant. What is the process for a second transplant I really do no know but if anyone let you know please share with me this info

That is a lot that you and your family have gone through. Waiting in uncertainty is also very difficult. I believe that the the process for waiting for a second liver transplant is the same as the first. thank you for this information I am worried for the time taking for a new liver. For my first transplant I was lucky because cancer showing out in the liver so Doctors decided to do the transplant immediately. Now as you mentioned the process for waiting for a second liver transplant is the same as the first. Then probably I do not have the chance I am 66 year old I wont loose my faith in God
