Has anyone improved bone density without meds?
I have a very problematic dental history and will continue to need additional root canals and implants. I also have Sjogren's Syndrome and want to avoid any drugs that cause rheumatic symptoms. Other issues in my health history make all of the meds risky for me. That said, I work out almost daily, lift weights, maintain a healthy diet, take all the recommended supplements, and get most of my calcium nutritionally. My endocrinologist wants me to take an infusion/injectable drug. I dread the side-effects, yet I'm afraid of fracturing, which hasn't happened over the many years I have had osteoporosis. That said, my numbers are getting worse (-3.2 spine, -3.1 hip). I need to do something more than I've been doing, and am at a loss. I need hope and solutions I can be at peace with. Thanks for any comments or suggestions!

You are right in your suggestion about the probable undesired redistribution of calcium between bones and vascular system. It happens. However, as I mentioned before, osteoporosis itself is linked to the incorrect distribution of calcium between bones and vascular system. Scientists do not understand yet what happens first: calcification of blood vessels or diminished calcium in bones. I put the link on the latest state of art in medicine on this theme:

Seems hard to believe but the radiology websites list DXA scans as the lowest source of radiation of any common xray like medical imaging. Comparable to 3 hrs of natural background radiation. For comparison digital mamograms give you the equivalent of 25 days. Here's a link to a radiology site listing radiation doses for various types of imaging.

No. I don't due to my advanced age. I have asked a friend who is a retired nurse about two products regarding osteoparosis. She said "NO" to MD1 I think? and gave me a heads up and said Bb BoneBoots looked OK. Hope that helped.

I have looked at the bone broth and it sounds unpleasant to me so I'm not going that route. Good luck with that.

I'm sorry, I do not know what MD1 and Bb Bone Boots is.
I figured out the Bb: bone broth; I guess the other involves the pharmaceuticals. How long have you been going the vitamins route? I am 82 now with a negative three something for a spinal thing. If taking the supplements you list has done it for you then I think I will try that.
interesting. Thank you.
@melia7 my post on what happens to calcium was to express concern about the level of calcium another poster was taking. I take 800 mg and my levels are around 10.
@lashu if your bone density scores are under -3 I hope you will consider Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity. The problem with osteoporosis is that there are no symptoms and we may feel invulnerable! I was doing sword tai chi in classes and feeling powerful when I fractured three vertebrae with a simple movement at home (not doing the tai chi!).
That is pretty much what my endocrinologist warned me. What did you do? The olderdiva in the discussion group lists a number of natural remedies that have worked for her. My doctor thought Evenity would be best. The necrotic jaw concerns me, as does the description of what happens when one stops taking Evenity: it sounds like erosion of bone sets in, So it demands taking one of the other meds (Forteo or Tymlos).
Nevertheless, I am inclined to risk these things if the threat is that great. Not sure what I will do. I have an appointment in late August with the Endocrinologist.
