Adenocarcinoma - newly diagnosed
Hello. I am new to this group. Thank you in advance for any guidance and or support you have to offer. I have been diagnosed with adenocarcinoma of the upper right lung. Have had a bronchocoscopy, x-rays, CT and lung biopsy - which determined the diagnosis. I have an appointment this Tuesday for a PET scan to determine staging, and a breathing test will follow. The only symptom I have had is hoarseness in my voice. Otherwise I feel fine. I am simply terrified and still in shock.

Sandy- Everything is stable right now. I'll have another CT in 6 months. Thank you.

Just to be clear - you can have just a PET scan alone and it will show the high metabolism spots but it may be difficult to see exactly where they are. Typically they do a PET/CT scan where the PET scan is done along with the CT scan and this shows the detailed anatomy and location of the cancer much better.
They can also do a PET/MRI scan but the PET/CT scan is more common.
It is easy to just say PET scan when you mean PET/CT scan but it is incorrect and misleading.
Your courage and tenacity amaze me.
I continue with regular scans, finally moved to be closer to Mayo and get some continuity of care. Not getting any younger. Thanks
Aww, thank you, neither am I! lol I'm so glad you are taking care of yourself!
