Severe gout: What treatment approach helps you?
Had gout several times in past years. After x-rays and blood test, Rheumatology Dr. claims I have severe gout. I am 82 and have been on Prednisone since mid-Apr. with no benefit. Has anyone tried a dietary supplement called "Urcinol"?

I am 84 years old. Had severe gout attack in right ankle about 30 years ago. MD gave me shot, I think cortisone.
Put me on Allopurinol treat gout. No attack since. I do watch amount of wine and red meat. HA!
Good luck.
gba, thanks for the info.
It’s more therapeutic to adjust your diet and consume anti-gout foods. I had same but not from crystal formation, never elevated blood tests only pain and swelling. I canned the drugs and control with diet. The meds did help me break thru.
Thanks, jenatsky. I have also added the anti-gout foods to my Rx med. Hope they work.
Word of caution on gout. It is labeled as arthritis and you may experience other arthritic forms too.
I realize that they frequently state, "it could be arthritis", but after several exams and x-rays the Rheumatologist is sticking with severe gout. One of the most painful test that I ever had was when the Doctor stuck a needle in the affected site to withdraw a specimen for lab testing. Guess what?? They lost the sample!!
@jack519 I am 79 with gout. I was prescribed Allopurinal 300mg and it works for me. I recommended it to my sister and it worked for her too. Best wishes for you.
Thanks, captboat . I am on Allopurinol but not that mg dosage. I think I am improving. Appreciate your info.
Is it 300mg p/day? Thx.
