I suggest that you get a second opinion before accepting the 'bipolar I' diagnosis. If your moods don't cycle that diagnosis may be one of those 'spectrum' deals that psychiatrists are so enamored with these days. You want to be sure because the medication burden is, as you know, punitive. Clonazepam works for a lot of things but, as usual, there are side effects. Good luck to you.

I pretty much know my triggers & i actually do pretty well with my anxiety 2 weeks ago i went to the ER for chest pains & i had some pain in my left arm & left side of neck I have had chest pains occasionally for a long time & ive had several bouts of costochondritis, which is what i thought this was until the arm pain They did all the usual heart tests & i had a stress echo all was fine So i chalked it up to the costochondritis & the fact that i have several, 12, bulging or herniated discs in my spine & stenosis at all levels so i am thinking it has begun to affect my limbs. So when i went to my PCP thursday he asked me what was i doing when this started & i said watching Good Morning America & drinking a cup of hot tea He says aha thats it something on that show triggered a Panic Attack I said no i dont think so i was pretty calm & i know a panic attack when i have it So he said no thats it, classic symptoms of Panic Attack Im going to start you on this medicine will help with your anxiety & lack of sleep I never asked for help with my anxiety nor do i think it is needed &,i sure am not going to take a pill with this amount of horrible side effects when ive never been diagnosed with bi polar, mania, or schizophrenia Im sure he and i will not agree on this.

You need to see a psychiatrist to really see if this is true. Even the Mental Health Center of your county can see or refer you according to your financial status.

It is hard when you are socially phobic and have anxiety. I started by visiting with trusted friends and made myself volunteer for an hour a week. Sounds like everyone has a different way of coping. Hope you feel better.

When I was a bible study teacher for my church, I still felt I would say dumb things or act in a way they might find strange. I have essential tremor and i see my psychiatrist once a month. I am trying different meds to eradicate the tremors. The drugs make my symptoms go away but might be causing side effects.

slow my social anxiety or talking fast by not talking at all. I am trying.

It sounds like you have a great support network at home. What meds are causing the hand tremors?

Yes, @colleenyoung, I have had the PGx testing done. It has helped in so many ways, as I have multiple psychiatric and physical conditions. I have tried to get family members to take this test, but all are skeptical. They don't believe the science is "real." It is so frustrating not to feel validated by family who could also benefit from this type of test.

Hello everyone. I am only just now learning the true sources of my anxiety and depression. I have had both since I was a young child. I wanted to run away from home, and had a plan on how to do it. I wanted to kill myself, and I had a plan for that too. I only recently learned that those circumstances have a distinct link to child abuse .I was abused early on but I have blocked out much of what happened. What I remember is enough. I have been on antidepressants for years. I do believe there is a hereditary link to chemical imbalances and they do seem to run in my family. I finally started on a low dose anti anxiety med this year, and it really helps. Memorizing Scripture of s positive nature helps too, as well as associating with people who build me up instead of tearing me down. Gratitude in all things helps. Talking to God throughout the day helps. Playing the piano, singing, and cleaning my house helps. Eating low carb helps. Reading inspirational literature helps. Sunshine and fresh air helps. Nature helps. Helping other people helps.

@mamasitalucita, thanks for sharing because you are absolutely correct: Helping other people helps! You have found many ways to work with your circumstances, and sharing these is beneficial for you and others, as well. I love your "helps" list.

And I absolutely agree with the hereditary issues of chemical imbalances and things like this running in families. I think that too many people underestimate the body's organic nature when it comes to these things.
