Skin pain on back/side of neck
Hello all - I just started dealing with this problem yesterday but it’s concerning me.
I have pain on the back of my neck, near the base of my hairline, and it travels down a little. At first, it really felt like a rash. It’s not itchy at all though, and there’s no sign of a rash. No bumps, no nothing. But touching the area hurts... I recently wore a necklace with a different chain and I thought that could be the problem so I took it off, but it didn’t relieve anything. When I press on it, it hurts, making me think it’s muscle and not skin, but it really feels like it’s on my skin even though there’s nothing to show.
And the pain isn’t like soreness, like whiplash or I slept on my neck wrong. It’s like I can move my head freely but touching that one particular area gives off a slight “burning” pin pricks feeling.
I’m not diagnosed with anything else, so I’m not sure where this is stemming from or what’s causing it. I’m open to any suggestions or ideas. If it continues to persist, I will be going to the doctor. Thank you for reading!

Hi, @sean_mj - sounds like this new problem with the pain emanating through your skin is perplexing with no rash, but pain when you press on your skin on the back of your neck, with a burning/pin prick feeling.

My name is Elizabeth (basslakeview). I have skin parasites, mostly my neck upwards and all through my scalp, but the symptoms are different.
What it sounds to me like is what us older people (and some doctors) used to call "neuralgia" which basically means "pain to the touch of the skin." I've had it in varying places all over my body during the years. There is nothing to see, no rash, redness, bumps... nothing. It simply hurts to the touch of your hands, even clothing will irritate you.
You could look up neuralgia on the internet to see if someone has come up with a lotion or a pill that might calm it down.. "Neuro" means nerves and "algia" means pain. Simply put, nerve pain. I haven't had it in a while. Mainly in my younger years. I do remember it being very aggravating. If I come up with a better answer I will let you know.
I have pain in my skin also on my sides, specially the left side. It also hurts to the touch. I haven’t looked for a rash but I don’t think so bc I don’t feel anything when I shower. I will look tomorrow. I do have an auto immune disease and take an immunosuppressant. I am getting a massage this week to see if it helps. I also go to a Pilates class that hopefully it won’t make it worse. Will keep u posted. Any suggestions from anyone?

3 ReactionsHi chud, I'm not the one who started this thread, but I also came across it while googling my symptoms and found it also described my symptoms accurately. I talked to my mother about it, and it turns out both her and her father/my grandfather also experienced this! She wasn't able to to say exactly what it was, all she knew was that it was "some sort of nerve pain" and it comes and goes. She also claims taking a bath with epsom salts can help.
Does Mayo Clinic have a comprehensive skin care team?
Anything for squamous cell skin cancer beside Mohs surgery then plastic surgery? We live 2 hours from the one clinic site in Jacksonville,fl.
