Anyone taken Evenity (romosozumab) for Osteoporosis?

Posted by arlene7 @arlene7, May 27, 2020

Has anyone taken Evenity? I understand it’s only been on the market for a little over a year. I’m hoping it will help with my severe osteoporosis. Any information is helpful.

Right- I keep reading about the very long half life of Reclast- that it stays in your body virtually forever.
I read one explanation that as it’s deposited in your bones, the osteoclasts do their thing ( breaking down bone) thus releasing the Reclast.
So I’m wondering why we’re advised to take it every year for 3-5 years???

I also read another study that said a half dose, as well as every 18-24 months is as effective as usual administration.

* I’d post a link but the studies don’t allow it somehow. If interested I can try to post that.

@leslie2121 I have also read a half dose is just as effective. My doc is nervous about me and is giving me a 20% dose when I finish Tymlos next month. After 3 months I am supposed to call to tell him what dose I want next. Full dose is 5mg so he is giving me 1mg.

I was on Fosamax for some years then Reclast for 5 years. Was drug free for quite a few years until Dexa in 2021 showed severe osteoporosis. Started on Prolia. Between Jan 2022 and April 2023, I had 3 fractures due to osteoporosis each requiring surgery. Doctor said Prolia not effective and stated Tymlos last week. When I asked about treatment after Tymlos was told “will discuss later “. Did anyone take Tymlos prior to Evenity?

I did four months of Tymlos, then went on Evenity. Four months only due to the cost.
No problems with Tymlos.

@susanfalcon52 , thanks for the information. I’m going to discuss it with my doctor. Been on Tymlos a week and it’s causing a very bad headache. Did Evenity cost more than Tymlos? Do you have private insurance or Medicare with a supplement?

@ymv are you taking a full dose? I would decrease the dose for a week or two and ramp back up. I had horrible headaches but even if you stay at a higher dose they go away in a few weeks for most, I have heard.

As for cost, Radius has a patient assistance program for Tymlos. Evenity does not though at times they refer you to foundation help.
