Severe Constipation
I have had severe constipation for a long time. I drink lots of water and have had almost every test possible done and tried many prescription medications. These medications work for a little bit then stop. I currently take 3 docusate in morning and at night I will take 2 senna/docusate. I still dont have a daily BM. So i get bloated crampy and back pain from this.
I was told I could go to the Mayo Clinic as they may have ideas for me because they are out of options for me here.
Anyone else suffer from this?

Does your doctor know you are having rock hard stools? If not contact them. Even if they know contact them again and tell them exactly what you told us. Tell them you must have relief.
Thank you, I did.
They told me about stool softeners and laxatives.
I have chronic constipation and am very sensitive to whatever supps or medicines I take, so often reduce the dose quite a bit. I am finding that 1/4 teaspoon (for me) of mineral oil solves my Big C problems. It is simply a lubricant; you may still need some stimulation, I don't know. I learned about it here:

Try eating spinach everyday. ( others veggies too but Spinach is very helpful.) In salads, on sandwiches, cooked in hot foods.
Thank you very much for the advice!
So sorry you are going through that! Though not experienced with the cause your unusual problem, I can say that it helps me to be sure to drink enough (no caffeine) tea, or water in general. Must avoid rice and never eat bread as both slow my gut. Fruits, veggies helpful.
Learned this in college anatomy class while standing over a corpse with a very wide colon which had been distended by a lifetime of constipation.
Figure Eight Breathing exercises before sleep:
Inhale air into the lower tummy. Then send the air into chest, then back to lower tummy then out. Doing ten of these breaths helps me stay regular. Hope it helps you. Our professor said someone at Stanford had written a dissertation on the effectiveness of that breathing exercise. Best wishes for moving experiences!
Thank you very much, a person should never have to fear or dread, having a bowel movement.
I go once a week, I've gone two weeks a few times and I'm tired of it.
I am on a gluten free diet, hoping that would help with my constipation. I use to go once a week, and always felt bloated. If I'm careful what I eat, staying away from all wheat, I now go 3-4 times a week. I also put 1 tablespoon of hemp hearts on my breakfast of a bowel of mixed berries with plain yogurt. I do not feel bloated any longer.
That's great! And thank you for the advice!
I use a herbal thai/chinese tea which you can get at a Far East grocery stores. It comes in tea bags and is in a green carton box. I don't remember the exact name but is is well known, it relieves constipation and helps loose weight.
I usually take it at night before going to bed; of course it helps if you eat veggies, fruits etc,
Good luck, Claude
