Redundant / Tortuous Colon Colonoscopy Prep Problems

I have a Redundant / Tortuous Colon with Diverticulosis, I am also a Short Bowel Patient. For the past few years when I go in for my Colonoscopy I am told that the prep was incomplete. When I ask what was incomplete he Dr.'s say the pockets of Diverticulosis were not visibly clean. On one Colonoscopy they checked me into the hospital to do the prep and I was given 4 jugs of 4000ml PEG , Nulytely over 48 hours and I was still not clean. Has anyone else had problems with Colonoscopy prep? Recommendations? I will be going in Northwestern Memorial in July for a Double Balloon Colonoscopy, they have also placed me on Miralax 2x day till the day of Prep starts.

I am keeping a list of recommended doctors across the country if anyone would like to contribute the name, location and reason for the recommendation. As we all know, there are so few practicing doctors who listen, think out of the box, keep up on research, look beyond the circle of their colleagues or institutions, are good diagnosticians, have curiosity, and can tune into the individual. I have known some in my lifetime and out of those, most have retired. I currently know a few, in their own specialty, who have a number of these traits. Please share with me and I will add them to the list. Also include doctors who may be conventional, but you can recommend for their diagnosis ability either in a specialty or general medicine. Thank you.

In addition to this, I also have colonic inertia. I had to do a Gavalyte prep for a recent test. The week before, I added a half cap of Miralax to my regular meds, starting eating low fiber a few days before, did clear liquids day before and day of prep. Easiest prep I ever did!

I take 60 mg of Mestinon
3 times a day. It’s not a standard gi med. I’ve failed all others. Also 1/2 cap of Miralax and 2 caps of Ibguard. I also eat pretty low-fiber. Not a lot of red meat. Mostly seafood and chicken. Limited fresh veggies and fruit, except in smoothies. Trying to avoid surgery.

How often can yo go w/ this regiment. Is it daily? I had my colonoscopy Mon. Couldn’t go until last night. I’d been taking Linzess 290mg and 1 cap laxaclear (generic for miralax daily.

About the list of good doctors -- Check out Castle and Connolly. They research the doctors on their list and I have crossed checked some of them with the few I know that are stellar. They make their money in a way that doesn't conflict with their listing choices. That may be better than collecting names and their locations.

Hi, I am new to this group but hope you could please help me in getting a copy of this list of Dr's. please. I am urgently needing a Dr for this and willing to travel anywhere in the country as I need to get help so that I can work at my very physical job. I am off on medical leave now for a related situation that was a result of having this redundant colon so now is the time I have to take care of this ASAP as when working it is hard to get off & wouldn't be able to go through all the prep needed for procedures. I'm trying to find a regular Dr to help in general with my symptoms & also trying to find a Dr who has experience successfully able to complete a colonoscopy with someone with redundant colon (this 2nd Dr is the most urgent I'm trying to schedule). I hope that you will be willing to share the list to me ASAP as it is so very important. I can give you my email or whatever is best so that I could please get a copy. Would really appreciate this as this is the most urgent reason I was looking at this forum. But didn't know about this group until now or would have been on here a couple years ago had I known about it. Thanks so much! Hi TgLaura,

My gastro doctor is Dr. Asma Khapra in Fairfax, VA. Dulles In'tl Airport is close by. She spent 3X the normal 20 mins for my colonoscopy and said I had did not clear out and had a severely redundant colon. I like her and she specializes in IBD and women's digestive issues. She is listed on Castle and Connolly (they research the docs before listing) and teaches a bit at a local university hospital (I think). It has been hard to get an appt with her, but maybe not now. Note there would be an initial virtual/in person appt and then the colonoscopy would be scheduled.
