Voltaren gel
My wife has chronic pain in her hip and hamstring. MRI negative. Physical Therapy no help. Acupuncture no help. Is Voltaren gel safe to try? I read it can cause liver damage.

I have to be careful with oral nsaids however I have used Voltaren Gel 1.1% for years on my neck, shoulders and back. I even recently used it on my knee area after I had. TKR with no issues whatsoever except it helped with inflammation. I think it's an individual thing because what helps one may not another and the same with medication. Follow your own body's warnings.
Voltaren, “never leave home without it!”
I have been using Diclofenac gel brand and generic for two
years regularly. There is absorption through our skin.
Possibly 5 or 10 percent of what we apply. The arthritis pain strength is 1%. In theory if you use a generous 4 gm dollop
you might absorb 4gm x .01 = 40 mg applied x 5 to 10%
works out to 2 or 4 mg internal dosing. Very low and not
very likely to create any problems. Bypassing any worrisome
stomach irritation. Most serious adverse effects quoted are for much higher oral dosage and fortunately very rare.
There was a stronger formula used to repair sun damaged skin that was often very irritating in the process.
I use it on multiple areas of tendon and ligament inflammation and it seems to help when applied several times a day. Suspect it works better for tendonitis due to the
anatomy. It is likely metabolized differently on skin rather than by mouth. House brands are least costly per ounce.
Thank you for your information and correction that Voltaren Gel (Diclofenec is the generic) and it is 1% and NOT 1.1% as I posted. Have a great day!
Be aware of using Voltaran if you have a cat. It's highly toxic for them. Wash your hands after applying it. If using on your hands, give it time to be absorbed, then wash up.
Thank you. I did not know that! I have a cat. Also, lysol is very toxic to a cat. Do not clean a litter box with lysol. Another thing, the jury is still out on this one, essential oil diffusers/essential oil candles are THOUGHT to be toxic to cats as their liver absorbs the oils. My vet told me not to use them around my cat. Have a "Purrrrr-fect" Day!
Voltaren
has warning on the carton not to use product on large parts of the body "ONLY on the following areas: hand, wrist, elbow,(upper body areas),foot, ankle, knee (lower body areas)".
I have used Voltaren gel on my neck for years and have used the patches on my back. The patches last I believe or 8 or 12 hours.
Hi, Inquire about using CBD BALM. it comes in different strengths and does not inter the blood stream especially if your wife is taking other medication. IT comes in different strengths. Ask your dr about this natural substance that has No THC. Good Luck let us know if it helps if you are able to possible obtain a sample and use it. I used a hot and cold pack alternately. IT helps as well. Do inquire about state control companies who sale CBD products in your area. VIP. Half people at nursing home I worked at used. the CBD balm minus heavy drugs to combat pain for arthritis, injuries, chronic back pain, while drs would just prescribe heavy meds.
Has any Voltaren gel user noticed a bad taste in their mouth after application? I used Voltaren gel for the second time ever, on my feet (osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis). After about an hour, I noticed a strange and unpleasant taste in my mouth. I haven't yet noticed other side effects.
A doctor approved my trying Voltaren gel and I used it exactly as recommended in the instructions. If "very little" of this NSAID is absorbed into the system, how can it cause a taste?
More importantly, does anyone know of a counter-agent to erase the taste? Blechhhhhhhh...
