Voltaren gel

Posted by toddybob @toddybob, Sep 19, 2022

My wife has chronic pain in her hip and hamstring. MRI negative. Physical Therapy no help. Acupuncture no help. Is Voltaren gel safe to try? I read it can cause liver damage.

I have never used it on my feet. But it does go to reason that you would taste it. Feet are very sensitive and contribute to every part of your body.

Has any Voltaren gel user noticed a bad taste in their mouth after application? I used Voltaren gel for the second time ever, on my feet (osteoarthritis, plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendonitis). After about an hour, I noticed a strange and unpleasant taste in my mouth. I haven't yet noticed other side effects.

A doctor approved my trying Voltaren gel and I used it exactly as recommended in the instructions. If "very little" of this NSAID is absorbed into the system, how can it cause a taste?

More importantly, does anyone know of a counter-agent to erase the taste? Blechhhhhhhh...

I believe you because we are all so different. I have used Voltaren Gel for a long time for Fibromyalgia & Arthritis and I have not noticed any taste issues. I would ask your pharmacist about it if I was you. Your body does not absorb much of this NSAID in your system as you said.
Have you tried getting another tube of it to see if it makes a difference? Blessings.....

@sln I have used Voltaren Extra Strength gel but never on the soles of my feet (although I have used Vick’s Vapo Rub on my soles. Never had a strange taste in my mouth using either - but perhaps the soles of the feet do absorb it into the system. Or perhaps it was coincidental …?

Toddybob, Hi there! I have used Voltaren Gel 1.1% for years. My massage therapist even uses it on my back and shoulders. If there is anyone who will have a side effect to anything it is"me"! I have done great with it. It helps my pain greatly. The Pain Clinic I go too recommends using it up to 4 times a day for best results as does my Podiatrist for my arthritic feet. I use a heat pack after the gel is appied for the pain. I have done well with it. I know we are all different. Hope this helps. Have a blessed day.

@covidstinks2023 how long does it take before Voltaren to take effect. In other words how many applications do you have to apply before you feel the pain/inflammation get some relieve? How many times per day do you use it? Thanks.

The key is to use it before the pain gets too bad. I know, its hard to predict isn't it? Some days I get relief after the first time and other days I have to use it more to greater relief. I use a Bed Buddy heat pack with my pain after I have rubbed the Volatern gel in. I was told to use it up to 4 times a day. Check with your doctor before doing that. Praying you get relief. God Bless You!

@covidstinks2023 thank you so much for your reply. I also have a Bed Buddy. Is it a long tube filled with beads/beans and two rope type handles on each end. Mine is wonderful. Thanks for Blessings & Blessings to you.

Hi, I have a question relating to use of a gel for pain in my hip. The cause is likely to be narrowing of the vertebral space causing nerve inflammation. Since the pain is in my hip and the inflammation is at the site the lumbar vertebrae, where should I put the gel to get most relief? And thanks for all the posts. I have found them very helpful and I also get great relief from knowing that other people have this problem, and deal with it.

Personally, if its Voltaren gel, I would put it all over the area. I am a big fan of Voltaren gel and the Physician's Assistant told me to apply it 4 times a day to the site that is hurting. I apply all around and on the area of my spine that has degeneration & arthritis and I use a Bed Buddy heat pack. Ask your doctor and praying for you.
