What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

Surprised on the way to fill my bird feeders and saw this large Bumble Bee fueling up on my patch of pretty wild violets (I think).

We had bumblebees attacking our lavender that is blooming right now! Boy, were they loud!

The fallen acorns wistfully looking in your direction as they often stand upright, as if winking in your direction to kick them high in the air, yes the same air that mercilessly shook them in all directions until they fell to the ground. Oh, but what a razzle dazzle of a time with mischievous wind as they shrieked in delight all the time like the four year-olds in swings. So give them one more delightful embrace of the wind that shook their every limb to ecstatic heights.

Outside my picture window it is ever changing. I am saddled with an incurable chronic disease that has me on opioids so I had to give up my CDL 10 years ago. My wife now does all of the driving. I ride along and help in every way that I can. Blessed to have her for 47 years now. She just got an award from our company for having well over a million miles of safe driving. 2-3000 miles every week.

What a touching story...it kept me wondering there ought to be a way out of this pain of yours even if just slightly less...each day , each week to build hope.
As one who has entered the eighth decade, I can attest to the new pains that are first of its kind I noticed this summer. But nothing that would prevent me from taking care of myself independently. Walking each day -- or just pacing in my apartment brooding over the questions that I must think through -- taking care with good wholesome food and busying myself with the grander purpose it helps me to chart each day to get closer to where I want to be. It certainly helps with sound 8-hr sleep. So far no meds, no tests, no surgeries, and the funny thing is there were some inconveniences which have now disappeared, it has given me such a sense of elation: 'Life is GOOD.' Seems we only appreciate when hardships abound!
You say you had CDL so I suspect it must be quite a sedentary life unless you were able to balance it each week or so with physically demanding activities, house work, recreation or hobbies. As Mayo site, https://newsnetwork.mayoclinic.org/discussion/7-tips-to-live-a-happier-life/ I came across looking for what helps with healthier life. It seems to suggest what I seem to do each day. Could this be a way to mitigate your health concerns, including less dependency on opioids? In my understanding -- and I've no expertise in biomedicine but much interest in what makes for a healthier person -- bolstering body's own healing system can stave off dependence on much medical intervention. All best, my friend!

You are blessed with having a good wife, a 47-year relationship, still riding, still being able to help at work, being a passenger with a safe driver, being with an award-winning driver.... there's certainly a lot more.

Every day brings a new dawn. Here comes the Sun!

Thought I would share a few photos recently taking - the Baltimore Oriole was taken about an hour ago. I don't see a lot of them but they are gorgeous when they show up.

Not sure unless it’s the part of the leg under the feathers. It was a little breezy.
