Chronic Prostatitis, no infection

Posted by tommymac @tommymac, Jun 4, 2023

I’ve been diagnosed with Chronic Prostatitis (no infection). I’ve had it for 8 months now and it is miserable. It started out like a urinary tract infection just in my penis but has spread to my prostate and even up into my stomach. Besides the painful peeing and constant prostate pain I now feel nauseous and have bad stomach aches. Nothing seems to make it feel better. I’ve tried about everything except antibiotics. Antibiotics don’t make sense to me since they can’t find any infection. Thank you!

Really sorry to hear that you are suffering, it must be terrible. My comment to you would be to seek an appointment with the Mayo Clinic. You can request an appointment online! I’m also a believer in second opinions. If you’ve been seeing a Urologist….collect your records and prepare to see another! I feel certain that other members of this community will weigh in and offer their thoughts, it will help you!

Thank you for your condolences and your reply. I live in Alaska so it would be difficult to go to the Mayo Clinic but maybe. Seattle is the closest big city. Yes, I’ve been seeing a urologist. He’s a good doctor but he is kinda stumped right now.

I have huge confidence in the Urology Department at the Mayo Clinic. I had a procedure called HoLEP last year…..you can read about it. Bottom line is that the solution to my problem began with a phone call to the Mayo to ask about an appointment. There may be many options available due to your distance from a Mayo Clinic…..I don’t know….but perhaps things can happen long distance via digital collaboration tools like FaceTime Meetings to help understand where you are today with this health issue. Collect copies of your health records from your local Doctor because the Mayo will need to see them if you get to the point of an appointment. Call them? Tell them what’s going on…..they will guide you. I’m glad you have confidence in your current Doctor….but I will tell you that it’s joy to the ear if a second doctor says the same thing. Something is wrong with your health…..you must keep digging for a solution. You can’t sit back and assume that nothing can be done. Call the Mayo…..tell them what’s going on.

Please try to Google “ Mayo Clinic Appointments”. Once you’re in the Mayo Clinic Website, you’ll be able to look around, try to find the closest Mayo Clinic near you and request an appointment. For me, when I filled out the online requirement to request the appointment, a staff member called me within a few days, I live in Florida and chose the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. Go to the website and have a look. In this forum, coordinators sometimes jump in and help guide you to the right path, perhaps one will read this soon and reach out!

I’m not the person that could give you a solid answer on that question. I think the answer lies more in what type of supplemental insurance you may have. In Florida, I’m pretty sure Mayo accepts Medicare alright…..but if you have a supplemental Medicare Advantage Plan….they won’t accept that. I believe they accept original Medicare plans if you have a supplemental plan like Plan G or F. When you call the Mayo to discuss your issue, they will help you understand what is or isn’t accepted.

Get a second opinion…for sure. I believe that you need to seek a second opinion…..it seems to me that this is not moving nearly fast enough. Find a Urologist that is highly rated….and go.
