Having a MRI to rule out recurrence in other breast

Such happy news!! I had a lumpectomy in late Nov 2022 -Invasive Lobular 2cm - no nodes -grade 2 - completed 19 rounds of radiation and now on Letrozole (57yrs old) - lately I've been having so much anxiety as my oncologist at Dana Farber feels any scans prior to one 1 year are not helpful; my mammo month is October so I will have a diagnostic mammo. I will ask then how I will be reviewed - I feel an MRI with lobular would be helpful - can I ask the timeline of your surveillance scans?? Again - happy for your news!

Hi, thanks for your comments. As far as the timeline for follow up scans, I think each situation is unique. I had an ultrasound 3 mo after radiation since I got a seroma at the lumpectomy site. I had a diagnostic mammogram 1 year post diagnosis/ surgery. They said I should now be back on yearly mammogram schedule. I had the MRI this week due to some symptoms on the other breast (it wasn't a regularly scheduled screening exam). So, talk with your team about what will be best for your follow up.

Thanks for weighing - very helpful. I'm trying to have faith in my oncologist but such mixed opinions on scans post lumpectomy. I'm certainly not trying to look for problems but post radiation just no way really to "verify" it did the trick.
