Need information on Laryngopharyngeal Reflux
My ENT doc just diagnosed me with Laryngopharyngeal Reflux, or "silent reflux". I had never heard of it. I thought the only kind of reflux came with heartburn, et. al., that we always hear about. Learn something new everyday! I had been unable to use my voice for 3 weeks. A round of Z-Max has helped that and I now have my voice back. I have post-nasal drip. I have changed from a Neti pot to Navage, and that seems to help. I've just been tested for allergies. He has suggested using Gaviscon, but I'm reluctant because of the possible side effects. My PCP put me on Nexium a while back, but I was nauseated and had diarrhea. This is the first time I've had the throat problems. I would enjoy receiving feedback from any of you who have had experience with this kind of reflux. I hope today is a good day for you! Sue

doesn' the melatonin make you sleepy all day? I only take .25mg at night, and I am in LaLa land all night.
I only take it at night. Unfortunately it doesn't have that affect on me. But it does close the LES enough that I don't get acid shooting up my throat.
Gaviscon Advance has lots of salt. Each 10 ml contains 1000 mg sodium alginate and 200 mg potassium hydrogen carbonate as active ingredients. Please consult your doctor, if you can't take salt due to high blood pressure, kidney disease or heart problems, etc.
You can mix a little more than a pinch of salt with a cup of boiled, but warm water and put in palm of your hand and place your hand close to your nose and breath in the mixture through your nose. You will see all mucous comes out of your nose. Do it several times or anytime you feel congested. It helps me a lot. Make sure your hands, and the cup are clean as well as the water you use. You can also gurgle it. If you have high blood pressure use little salt.
I just started taking Biotic Research Capsules for Sibo to see if helps. Thanks.
I have LPR and recently had the Bravo meter implanted (four days) to measure acid. Reflux was confirmed so my GI doctor has me on famotidine, but also wants me to sleep at a 45 degree incline. I purchased a 10” and a 12” wedge and am finding either one impossible to implement-end up sliding down until I am basically not elevated at all.
Do you sleep on your back with your wedge pillow?
Thank you, Cindy
I sleep on my left side. I researched and, left is recommended for GI issues. And I use 8 inch wedge; 6-8 is recommended. I think yours is too high. I also use a cylinder shape pillow and tuck it behind my upper back. It makes it more comfortable and my upper back don't bend so much. I hope this works for you.
Hi CMDW
I had problems with the little wedges too. I purchased a whole bed wedge, it gradually declines all the way to your feet. Much more comfortable and I do not feel like I am fighting so stay up on it all night. Many brands available online, I got mine from lucid. Hope this helps.
Thank you! I will check it out. Cindy
