If colon or GI is not the cause then a hematologist may need to look for causes such red cell destruction or lack of production. Has your doctor run tests for hemolytic
anemia? It may be autoimmune.

Scheduled an EGD and colonoscopy.
I have seen somewhere in notes that it may be nutritional anemia but haven't had any specialists confirm that yet.
they's like to have the suggested procedures done first.
The hematologist specifically is interested in the results.
I will jot down your ideas in my list of questions.
I know you are not diagnosing, but I haven't heard of red cell destruction or lack of production or hemolytic anemia.
In my opinion, these terms are important to bring up to my docs in order to broaden my awareness and knowledge and hopefully help take the fear out of the new direction my bod is taking me in.
Knowledge is power, right?
thank you!

I have the same situation! I am severely anemic and had to get a emergency blood transfusion. It never raised my anemia and now amd getting iron infusions. I also have crohns disease and the drs thought the blood loss might be from that. I got MRIs and cat scans to try and find the source of the blood loss. Long story short, the tests did not show the source of where the blood loss was coming from. They still don't have a anwser for me..

This is what my gut is telling me too.
I also have a hiatal hernia which can be adding to the gut acid. I honestly feel like my situation is a malabsorption issue.

Thanks for your reply. Now I know I'm not going crazy!

I'm sorry for your nonanswers tho. So frustrating. How are you doing? How are you managing Crohn's and the iron infusions?

Go to WebMD and search Crohn's Disease and iron absorption. I found an interesting article explaining why Crohn's makes iron absorption difficult if not impossible.

Stay in touch, I was just diagnosed in mid March 2025. I'd like to stay connected if possible.
No worries if not.

Yes I have seen it with anemia of chronic disease. Follow up with a hematologist or blood pathologist best.
