Anyone had radiation of the lung? What were the side effects? Results?
I am an 80 yo female just diagnosed, for the 2nd time, with lung cancer. My first was in the RUL surgically removed in 2016. This one is in the LUL and is still very small, barely 1cm.
This time my Oncologist wants to use radiation therapy. Has anyone had this tx and what were the side affects? Any and all answers will be greatly appreciated.

I had stage one in 1992 and had the lower third of my right lung removed.
No chemo. Was cancer free for 24 and one half years, then had another
tumor in the upper right lung. (2017) Stage one. I don't remember the name of the
radiation, but the oncologist said it had only been developed in the past ten years.
(Since 2007). Very focused, so instead of 30 treatments, I only had six, two per week.
No pain, no tiredness, no nausea, no nothing. Leviticus 19:28. So they used washable
ink and covered the mark with tape. No problems.
I have had a CT every six months since then.
Work on building up your immune system.
Get the book "Chris Beat Cancer", A lot of work, but worth it.

My stepmom is 83 and just had radiation six times in really small bursts. I think they were 5 minutes long/each session, although the entire process was an hour each time, but she opted to do the smaller radiation sessions instead of the longer sessions. But she also had a very small nodule that was cancer. The only mild symptoms from the radiation was a very mild burn on the skin, and there were a few days she felt a little bit tired. I wish you all the best of luck. I think you'll be fine!!! We are all here to support you and give you the best advice we can, and words of encouragement too.
Thank you so much.
Not until October. Wants to do PET scan than radiation. Have no idea what type of radiation yet.
Thank you
I'm sure each person has different reactions to radiation depending on the size and placement of their tumor. Radiation has come a long ways since years ago when much too strong a dose was given. I was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer in July 2022. My tumor was large, in my left lung, and nestled up against the esophagus.
The location of the tumor and its size did cause me distress during my treatments. The doctors however are amazing at recommending help to alleviate side effects. I got through the treatments without any lasting problems. The radiation also did not cause any burning of my skin. I used one of the many topical products products they had recommended. Since your tumor is small and in the lower part of the lung, you may not have any side effects. The best person to ask questions of is your radiation oncologist and their care team. I wish you all the best. Vickie
Hi,

I have a loafs tumor on my left lung as well as my lymph node in my esophagus area. Slot if pressure. I start my first Chemo/radiation in about 5 minutes. They diagnosed me with stage 3B N2Mo
Hi donnatownsend,
I am Small Cell Lung stage 3b with all my lymph nodes involved.
Connect with your palliative care doctor or your chemo doctor about the pressure.
My radiation doctor gave me a prescription to numb my throat so that I could eat.
After treatments my throat eventually got better.
I was on Cisplatin and Etoposide.
I hope you tolerate treatments well.
I was told exercise helps to eliminate side effects.
The first week after treatments I rested. After that I had a friend walk with me. I walked a mile every day. I did online exercises when I could. I liked Jessica Valent's videos. She has easy ones and more intense.
Wishing you all the best. The first chemo is the scariest. Take care of yourself.

Thank you for your reply. Happy to hear you are on the mend. God bless you
Hi Lovey - I am in my 3rd radiation treatment for NSCLC adenecarcinoma R upper lung and lymph node in same area. I go 5 days a week for treatment and 1 day a week for chemo. I've had 1 chemo treatment so far. I have had no reactions as of yet...the radiation is very quick (maybe 6 minutes) and then it's done. I am well aware of all of the possible side effects of both as they have to tell you and you have to sign off that you have been advised. I'm praying that I won't have any - so far so good. I feel pretty good in fact. But I do have 5 more weeks of every day so some could crop up eventually. I will meet with the rad/onco every Friday to evaluate and discuss and about 3 weeks out will be xrayed to see if any shrinkage. The goal is to shrink both the node and the tumor and if I'm strong enough (I'm 77) to do the robotic surgery. I wish you luck..hang in there...stay positive.
