Want to hear positive things about anterior hip replacement

Posted by snoony2 @snoony2, May 5, 2023

I am having a hip replacement in two mos. It will be done by the anterior method without cutting the muscles. I am interested in hearing only positive experiences. I’m hoping it will take away my knee pain which might be referred pain from hip. I’ve already had a kbeecreplacement

@snoony2

In anterior they don’t cut the muscles. It’s a far less invasive type of surgery

I had a thr on April 19th. The first couple of weeks were hard but looking back I really was improving every day! The key is patience and let your pain be your guide. I live in Michigan and the weather was cold and gloomy so I didn’t mind sitting inside reading and watching Netflix. It’s week #4 and I can do most everything. I can’t walk miles but I’m happy for how far I’ve come in 4 weeks!
Praying you’ll do well!

Could you walk without pain after the first two weeks?

I had a complex THR at the end of January. I have only begun to walk normally after nearly 4 months. It was complex because I had soft bones. My x-ray shows a typical hip replacement along with a cable to prevent a fracture. The good news is that the horrible knee pain that went on for 7 years is

Oops
7 years is almost totally gone. I could not have imagined that a bad hip could have caused such severe pain in the knee. I feel soooo much better now. I am 74 years old.

The first week was tough but I could manage. I was worried about night time trips to the bathroom, but I managed. Honestly the first couple of days weren’t easy but I was able to get up on my own with a walker. I also had my husband and daughter to help me out.
Make sure you ice and elevate.
I had a lot of swelling all the way down to my feet on days 2-5. I was probably doing too much. Take it easy that first week!

My surgeon said: Remember, it’s a marathon not a sprint. Don’t compare yourself to others.

I had a total hip replacement in January. I was off the prescription pain meds within 10 days of going home. I was driving at 3 weeks post op. I went to PT twice a week until mid April. I have numbness and occasional pain/ achiness in my thigh. My surgeon says that is the nerves regenerating and it can take up to a year. My movement of that leg is back to normal. I am continuing to work on rebuilding muscle strength- going to the gym and doing PT exercises at home. I can power walk 4 miles.
