@popolopo No, it’s a different test entirely. I had an MRI and a CAT scan and the hardware looked okay, no problems showed up, although the stem looked close to the “cortex” on my regular x Ray, which I think in this case means the bone. The next test recommended for me was this Triple Phase Bone Scan which is used to definitively rule out any loosening of the implant, to detect any infection, ( doubtful in my case) and see more of what’s going on with the stem. You get an injection of a tiny amount of a radioactive isotope and then a gamma camera looks at it. All very hi tech and hard to understand for a layman like me. I hope your MRI sheds some light on your pain and what to do about it.
@binblessed I’m very happy for your news that your pain has essentially gone away after a revision surgery. That is wonderful. It is encouraging to read that a revision can help. Congratulations and wishing you all the best with your new hip. I’m considering revision and currently waiting on results of a triple phase bone scan, after which I might make an appointment at the Mayo Clinic. Thanks for posting your positive outcome.
I did heavy research on my doc. Dr hedley. He is rated #5 in the US if u need another consult look him up. He and his staff are truly amazing. So kind and I felt so secure w them.

@binblessed Just curious for future reference, what source did you use that showed that doctor’s rank? I presume Dr. Hedley is an orthopedic surgeon. I love my orthopedic surgeon who did my TKR, Dr. Fitz in Boston, but I looked him up on one site and it didn’t say where he ranked. To me he’s the best though and his reputation is great so I’m sure he must rate fairly well. He does only do knees though. These days orthopedic doctors are all so specialized it’s crazy.

I chose my surgeon based mostly on referrals from my PT and another surgeon at The Baptist who I would trust with my life! Then I looked him up on Vitals. https://www.vitals.com/doctors/Dr_Andrew_Braziel.html Meeting him only confirmed everyone's raves. I am *much* more in synch with Dr. Braziel than I was with my original surgeon!
I had my replacement done 3/28/17 , and everything has been great. I am 66 years old , highly active and athletic do many sports and work out religiously . Lately after 2 1/2 years+ since procedure , at times my left thigh becomes numb like and forces me to hobble and won't loosen up , of course after awhile it does but I can still sense it in the thigh, i am going to go to my orthopedic soon , and try to find a solution , with winter setting in , I don't what to be a gimp.

It definitely seems odd to me that you have gone so long without pain and that now your thigh is suddenly is a problem. It seems as if most of the people with thigh pain have it right from the beginning. I wish I could offer a suggestion but both of my TKRs are good so far. The second one was done in October 2017.
I hope your surgeon has a solution for you, and I hope we will hear back from you with what he has to say about it.

Yes I had it in2016 doctor told when I would be a new man, well 2yrs later still have pain at the stem makes it hard to get out of a chair or get out of bed, once I am up I can walk but the pain is getting like it was before, and believe me before this hip was replaced doctor had me on 6 perk 10mg pills a day made it hard to work but then after the displacement he said it just would take time, but today the pain is just like before surgery my wife in the morning is going to call the doctor that perform it to make an appointment he was supposed to be the best in the country he was the Steelers foot ball team top surgeon that's why we went with him. Sorry for the long text but I also had to vent this is crazy thanks for listening anyone h ave any thoughts please let me know thanks again

I had a total hip replacement 3.5 weeks ago on my left hip. I had right knee replacement 4 months ago on my right knee. I am an RN and I have very high pain tolerance. Ready you letter and the letter of others makes me scared. I too have horrible thigh pain on my operative side when I put weight on that leg. I only used a cane for 2 weeks with my knee replacement. It feels like deep thigh bone pain that is so severe I cry and cannot move. It lasts a whole day or more. Why can’t doctors find out the cause? We are not all drug seeking addicts that want to sit around in a drug induced haze. We want answers and pain relief. Nothing is more frustrating than not be listened to by your doctor. We need help!!

I am also living in pain,6years now. I take cannabis and some tramadol but I have to beg for it. Walking seems to help ,seems strange..I think I am rejecting the transplant,left hip. Doctors just tell me to do a bunch of stretches. They are of no help at all. I would like to go to a pain clinic but with this COVID that is not possible. I take zopiclone and gabapentin and sleep fairly well as a result. Morning is my best time. Hot and old packs help also. Hope you get some relief.
