If MAC was recently diagnosed and you do not have Bronchiectasis, then I would think it is unlikely that MAC would make you feel so sick or weak but I could be wrong. Light yellow sputum is not such a bad indicator. If a local Dr can do a CBC etc then it will indicate if you are having any serious infection going on. Could it be from something you are taking perhaps? Feel better.

I’m sorry you’re feeling bad. I’ve had yellow mucus for a long time and recently they decided it’s from chronic sinus inflammation. Both the local and Mayo radiologists and pulmonologists thought I had MAC, but it didn’t grow on bronch cultures. I have developed bronchiectasis.

Is it primarily in the mornings? Mucus that has been sitting around all night can become yellow and that isn’t considered significant if it clears during day.

Are you febrile? Eating and drinking ok? Try to eat and drink something and see if that helps.

Thanks for your input, very helpful. I’m going to National Jewish on June 28 and am so excited to be thoroughly checked out. It’s a real comfort to be seen by such excellent drs.

Very interesting. How was the
chronic sinus inflamation detected? is there any treatment for it? what are your symptoms?

Thank you!

Here’s a semi-condensed version of what feels like a long saga.

I had very large amounts of post nasal drip and a bad cough for a long time. My former primary MD ignored the complaints. After a the “terrible chest CT,” (f/u of an Urgent Care visit), he referred me to a pulmonologist who ordered Azelastine, Mucinex and Stiolta. I was on Flonase. PFT showed asthma. When the second CT 3 months later was not better, pulmonologist sent me to ENT.

ENt did nasal endoscopy and ordered CT of sinus, which showed opacity of frontal sinus. He prescribed Augmentin and a prednisone taper. I felt great for a few weeks. At next visit, he said he saw green pus and referred me to a frontal sinus specialist at the U and had me start Tobrax drops in head hanging back position. I also had allergy testing which showed severe allergy to oak and birch pollen and mild or moderate reactions to a few others.

I saw ENT at U last week and frontal sinus had cleared, but still had lots of secretions. He prescribed a steroid to add to my Neil med bottle for long term use.
Between those ENT visits, I went to Mayo and was negative for MAC, but have bronchiectasis. They changed pulmonary meds and had me start airway clearance.

Thank you. I will have to keep this in mind as I try to navigate. I have no post nasal drip, and no allergies exrays of sinuses show nothing.
Yet they are usually inflamed which affects my breathing, clogged, and I can't loosen any of it enuf to blow out..

The sodium chloride 3% inhalation really opens up my sinuses as well as helping me cough up stuff. I was amazed that it caused as much nose blowing as coughing.
