Statin discontinued due to neuropathy. What are some alternatives?
I have been using Lipitor since 2007 for lowering my cholesterol which is on the list of those medicines that are suspected to cause neuropathy. I am thinking of discontinuing this menace but before doing so want to check with those members who have discontinued using statin and what is their experience. What alternative methods have they since adopted for lowering their cholesterol .. diet, alternative medication, exercise or anything else ?

what is a high dose and what brand?
Red yeast rice has the same active ingredient as statins. Many people take citrus bergamot instead.

I know… but different statins can apparently affect people differently.
Have people achieved much success in lowering LDL with citrus bergamot alone?
I started on 40 mg of lipitor when I was 43 and my new doctor listed to the history of heart disease in my mother and older sister. My mother had a heart attack at 62 and again at 64 and had a quadruple bypass heart operation. My doctor knew that Lipitor was a drug to lower cholesterol and he asked me to try 40 mg to see if I could avoid having heart disease. I have no heart diseased that I am aware and I will be 83 in August 2023. I thought I noticed pain from Lipitor when I was in my late 60's and I stopped for a month, but decided Lipitor was not my situation. I further asked my doctor, and he replied that "we all" as we age experience different feelings as we get older. Why he says, all the time "growing old ain't for sissies". The human body as it grows older your mind could be the culprit!
I have a syndrome called Fibromyalgia that cause muscle cramps pain as well as feelings of pin pricks anywhere on my skins and feeling of electrical impulses. I was first started on Elavil generic name-amitriptyline , then neurotin and now 75mg of Lyrica twice a day. I met some friends that told me they experienced the same but they were on 300 mg twice a day. Again,
we are all different on how we tolerate pain. I use CBD cream of at least 900 mg strength and above. No specific brand, just buy any CBD product and see if I get relief. Volteran helps as well and it is less expensive than CBD on an ounce price. I know what I have and I know what helps me. Hope it may help you and anyone else that reads what I have written.
Volteran was a prescription but its now over the counter.
Do you have hypercholesterolemia? That is the only thing that would seem to justify a maximum statin dose. Have you tried some of the newer non statin meds such as repatha? Could be something you would like to discuss with your cardiologist.
I don’t have hypercholesteremia. discontinued Atorvastatin 40 mg after taking it for 20 plus years because I felt it might be causing the neuropathy. No improvement in neuropathy but not worse.
Began Red yeast rice about two years ago. Cardiologist is fine with results. Not quite 100 ldl but close.
Yes pls May I have the brand name
