Has anyone had sharp thigh pain after hip replacement

JK—thank you for your reply. I do have confidence in my surgeon. However I am afraid of the stem replacement. He tells me that it is a more complicated surgery than the total replacement. Right now the pain is tolerable. It’s the instability that concerns me as I’m afraid of a fall. Also having osteoporosis gives me more concern about falling. I will go back in April with more questions. I was hoping to get pros and cons from others who have had the same issue.

@mcdora I can certainly understand your concerns. Since it appears as if this might be an issue that has not affected anyone here, you might want to consider trying a group on Facebook. After my knee replacement, I discovered at least a couple of very active groups who were discussing them. I am sure there are private groups that are also about hip replacements.
I'm sorry that apparently, no one here is familiar with this.

I’m new to this group but I need help bad real bad... I had my second right hip replacement in December of 2015 an everything for the most part went ok but now this last July I started getting sever pain in my right thigh an nobody can figuyout why.. done a CT scan that showed nothing had a nerve conduction test that showed nothing now they want me to see a back surgeon but I know it’s. It my back... it doesn’t matter if I’m sleeping or standing or sitting it just comes out of know where and it’s the worst pain I have ever had... please need suggestions,

Just want to say welcome to the group. Looking at your story I would have the dr do a aspiration (draw fluid from hip) for infection. My husband had the problem with pain in his left leg after his left hip was replaced in Jan 2015. They did a aspiration and found he had a infection. He had the hip removed a spacer put in and was on 6 wks iv antibiotics. The spacer is in for 3 months. He now goes in Jan 31st for his new hip. Try asking the Dr to do that. Hope it helps.

I fractured my hip seven or eight years ago. They put 3 pins it. A couple of years ago the pins started to push out so they removed them. I had no problems other than needing the pins removed..

I had both hips replaced; Dec 2016 left hip / posterior approach I have sharp pain in thigh and moan and, or yelp out loud. Oct 2017 right hip replaced / anterior approach no sharp pain. Like others I’ve been to ortho surgeon several time with glowing reports each visit (everything aligned properly, no indication anything wrong with joint). Well, something is wrong, and the pain is unbearable. No pun intended, but I feel your pain.

@scottjeffe It must be miserable to have something wrong, and for the doctor to not acknowledge it. Have you considered getting a second opinion?

It surly impacts ones quality in f life. I’m going to let the VA hospital have a crack at fixing it since I was injured in the military 35 years ago.

Hello, my name is Reco and I had my right hip replaced in December. I experienced that same thigh pain for up to three weeks after the surgery. I constantly iced it over and over. So finally I purchased a product called t-relief gel and it worked great. Now seven weeks in I'm experiencing severe back pain. Had anyone else experienced that?

<p>Hi I have just had both hips replaced. First was July 19, 2015 right side. The second was January 21, 2016. Directly after surgery to my left hip in January while I was still in the hospital I had very severe shooting pains on my right thigh. It was also a burning sensation and numbness. It went from my belt line down to my knee. There were times it was so painful the shooting pain it was almost unbearable. This lasted for at least 2 weeks. I tried a TENS machine but did not help. Then I went to family doctor and he diagnosed Meralgia Paresthetica. He gave me prescription called Teva - Pregabalin. He said this was a medication for Shingles. Anyway I also spoke with my surgeon and he never heard of a situation as to mine. Where the right side was affected by the left side surgery. Anyway the medication has dulled it slightly and have been taking it for close to 1.5 months It is still quite bothersome and painful at times. Just wondering if anybody has had this and if can suggest any help. Also had one session of acupuncture. Did nothing. Would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks Lots. Cheers. Dave</p>

I just had my right hip replaced in Aug 2017 (second hip surgery). I am having the exact same pain in my thigh. You described it perfectly. Did find a solution or is there any way to alleviate the pain?

I had both hips replaced in 2014, and I have pain in my thighs all of the time. The more that I am on my feet the worse the pain. I am only 60 and I just got tired of going to the doctor and them telling me that nothing is wrong and it is probably just my back causing it. The problem is they don't listen to their patients and just want to continue doing test after test. I just deal with it. I live on a farm and I am so frustrated that I can't do anything that I love to do any more. But I keep hanging in there.

I’m so sorry you have this. I just had a THR at age 60 and though everything went great, I too have severe thigh pain. It keeps me up most of the night. Sometimes it’s the whole leg, radiating to the calf. Soooo frustrating. My doctors and PT also claim this is not normal. No hip pain but this is tough to deal With!

This is what I keep googling and researching. I keep wondering if it’s a deep infection. Thanks for sharing this, we could definitely benefit from checking further.
