Hi @debbraw- Thanks for the reply. Yes, I've had about 4 months of PT, but not going at the moment. Lots of stretching has been the routine. Just in the last several weeks I have been able to lift my new hip leg from a prone position and hold it up a few inches for a count of 10. This exercise seems one of the better stretches. I've also been doing some deep tissue massage on the upper thigh and on the scar tissue area near the IT band (my procedure was a 'lateral' incision). Note: the pain has not yet stopped me from most routines. I'm very active with travel etc.
Hi Everyone,
This is my first post on mayoconnect, I had my THR (R ) cement-less on 15th October 2018 and now at 3 weeks post-op. Three days
ago I did some extra walking (on walker) and did exercise as advised by PT but with almost double repetitions. Tuesday early morning, I was trying to get out of bed, as soon as I sat on bed edge the way I usually sit, i felt stabbing pain in exterior part of thigh, it was so intense that I almost cried , it immediately faded as soon as i straightened my operated leg. Now this pain is happening every time i am sitting with my operated leg in normal position i-e knee bent inward. I have told it to my surgeon , he had given Tegral 200 mg. Beside that i am having severe numbness in anterior part of thigh specially knee area which is very painful. Icing does help. Foot movements are fine after that stabbing thigh pain and i can walk on walker without any issue. I am not sure what is wrong my hip, Tegral is not helping to overcome this pain, may be it has something to do with implant stem in femoral canal . Can someone guide me on it what should i do. I am planning to go for X.rays.

Hello @atif_pk90, welcome to Connect. I moved your discussion and combined it with a discussion titled, "has anyone had sharp thigh pain after hip replacement?" I did this so all of the members already discussing the pain you are experiencing would see your post and have a chance to welcome you as well. Also, it gives you a chance to read through some of the previous posts about the pain other members experienced after their hip replacements. If you are replying by email, I suggest clicking on VIEW & REPLY so that you are brought directly to the new location of your post.
@atif_pk90, while we wait for other members to join in, would you mind sharing, what did your surgeon say when you presented this new pain to them?
I had a THR right side 6 months ago and have continued to have upper thigh and hip flexor pain on that side. Mostly when standing up from a sitting position and when straightening up after bending over. My ortho Doc just says that he noticed in surgery that I had VERY tight muscles, some people take longer than others to heal, and keep doing PT. Well, it’s getting a little frustrating to be limping and in pain 6 months after surgery. Any exercises that may help the healing process?
Hey @skitchymo, I am having a very similiar issue. I am 4 months post THR posterior left side. On the second night home from surgery I had a "spasmatic episode" in my hip/pelvis area that lasted about 2 minutes. It was excrutiatingly painful and I was sure I had completely ripped out my new hip. Xray showed nothing. Fast forward four weeks and I had to stop physical therapy due to extreme pain while doing straight leg lift. Again, xray showed nothing. I definitely believe I am having an issue around my psoas tendon or femoral nerve( which seems to fire on its own at night). In addition, I have "slow start up" pain getting up from sitting and in the first several steps. I also have upper thigh pain which massage seems to help. I tried for a second opinion and was told they wouldn't see me tell I was 1 year out of surgery. My surgeon just wants to wait and see? How are you progressing skitchymo? Could you give an update? I appreciate others feedback also. Thanks

Hey @khalt, I would definitely wait on replacing your other hip until you resolve your present issue. My pains seem to be related to the muscels/tendons/ligaments along the hip flexor/upper thigh/buttock area. Leg lift from a prone position was extremely painful a few months ago, a real strain on the hip flexor. I can perform the exercise now with much less pain. The side-lying clam exercise is still very difficult for me. I seem to still have very little strength in the upper thigh of my hip replacement leg. I just started ART (Active Release Therapy) sessions and I think this could be of great benefit. They are trying to stretch out the muscels/tendons/ligaments in the problem area. I'll keep you posted.
Hi. I'm new to this sort of thing so bear with me. On Dec. 25 it will be six months since my total right hip replacement therapy. I'm 67 and moderately active. My healing progress was really great. I did wind up with a seroma which is slowly going down. My problem is my thigh hurts. It's not a sharp shooting pain but an ache. The pain runs from the side of my groin almost to the knee. Whatever it is it causes a weird sort of numb feeling down the rest of my operated leg. I do bend over a lot. Picking up this or that. I sleep either on my non operated side or my belly. My seroma keeps me from sleeping on my operated side. So just wondering if this is a sign of dislocation or loosening of the joint. Any thoughts? Thanks so much!

Netflix had a show on medical implants the don't work, cobalt as a part of new hip was bad news.
