New to Warfarin. Any helpful advice?
I recently finally was able to get my ECHO scheduled after missing having it due to Covid cancellations at the Hospital. I had the "Window Maker" HA back in 2014 with 100% blockage in my LAD and have been on 50 mg of Metoprolol and 40 mg of Lisinopril since. After having my ECHO in the morning I received a call that afternoon from my Cardiologist saying they found a clot in my heart and wanted me on Warfarin right away. They are still playing with the dose to get my INR somewhere between 2.5 & 3.
Any thoughts or advise? Much appreciated! Jim @thankful

Been on Warfarin for years (2.0 - 3.0). Take your pill daily. Get your INR (Protime) checked monthly and avoid vitamin K (leafy greens, etc. that lower your number, i.e., thicken your blood). Get a list from your doctor that shows H, M, L for each type of food. Stay with L foods more than any other. Other than that, forget it.
Keep a diary, especially if you are not inclined to a habitual lifestyle. Note med times, foods eaten (time), activities (times) , bedtime, rising times, and anything unusual. Watch for blood or black stools, easy bruising. Avoid missing testing, especially until your blood levels are steady for at least a few weeks. Seek out things that, and people who make you laugh a lot!
@adamsrw592, @leno - Thanks for your good council and sage advise! The Anticoagulation Dr. seems to be having a tough time getting my INR in the range. I started with a INR of 1.3 after a few days and then jumped to 3.2, then back down to 1.7, back up to 3.9 and as of yesterday 4.0. We talked about diet quite a bit and I do eat relatively healthy so they took that in and said it's more important to be consistant with what I eat and not to advoid or over eat those green vegetables I often eat. Not having any of those side effects other than experienceing some jittery, weakness and tingling sensations briefly on Sunday. They were mostly gone within an hour.
I brought these sensations up with my Dr. and he didn't seem to be concerned?
We will see what they change in my Warfarin dosage today. After getting the score of 3.9 last Friday they dropped me down to 2.5mg on Saturday & Sunday and yet when tested again on Monday I was 4.0?
Thanks much! Jim @thankful
Hello, has anyone on Warfarin experienced joint pain? If so, is there anything that helps alleviate the discomfort while on the meds? thank you!
