Post Covid gastrointestinal issues: How long do they last?

Posted by clmmdm @clmmdm, Mar 19, 2023

Two months out from having Covid. Gastrointestinal issues still bothering me. Gas pains throughout mid section. Dr put me on Pantoprazole last week. Somewhat better but still experiencing gas pains.

My case sounds very similar to yours, I have taste but nothing taste like it should, I have lost a ton of weight and have no appetite. My family thinks it is not real. I have loose bowels with hardly any food going in. My case was basically all intestinal. During my bout w/ covid I could not keep any food or water down. I have started IV's and it gives me temporary relief.

I'm finding that these gastrointestinal issues are very common with long COVID. Like you, my issue is all gastrointestinal, which leads to other problems. I'm still going to doctors, with no results yet. I have even tried Kefir cultured milk (yuck), and sea moss gel from St. Lucia (double yuck) with no improvement. My doctor has now prescribed a stool softener and Dicyclomine. Still always sick to my stomach, no appetite, brain/gut disconnect, weight loss, etc. With all this going on, my husband and I leave tomorrow for an Alaskan cruise. Gonna be tough to get through that. Good luck to you, and let me know if you find anything that works for you.

I just went to doctor yesterday and he mentioned he has had Covid twice that left him with remaining GI issues. My gut (GERD/REFLUX/IBS)
all got worse with Covid. It's a brutal virus that wreaks havoc on some and not on others. God Bless You and I pray you get better every day!

Same. IBS is really bad. Sticking to BRAT diet often and careful with sugars and spices. Tried pro and prebiotics/ not a lot of luck. Metamucil same. Not much luck. Hoping it just takes care of itself naturally eventually but if not I’ll be making more appointments. I’m 5 months from Covid hospital stay.
