What does calcium within calyceal diverticulum in kidney mean?

Posted by berby @berby, Apr 28, 2023

Hi I was hoping someone could answer this for me.
Today I was told about my ultrasound results (briefly) my dr stated that my Right kidney had “ accumulation of milk of calcium within a calyceal diverticulum in the right kidney.
She wasn’t sure either what that meant and stated she is waiting for radiology to get back to her.
So I’m left in limbo.

If you entered the terms you mentioned in a google search, you will get the following:

It is possible that xray, MRI, and CT scan equipment is getting more powerful and detecting more. Post cancer treatment, my CT scan showed a cloudy image where my tumor used to be. Doctor wanted to remove my entire bladder and Prostate. to be safe. Surgery to do a biopsy proved that what was seen was just scar tissue from the initial tumor removal and I was cancer free.. Thankfully I still have my bladder and prostate and all is working fine.

@berby Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sure that may have left you feeling so unsettled, to hear from your doctor that she isn't sure what the results mean! Does she plan to offer you a referral to either a nephrologist or urologist, for clarification? Do you know why she ordered the ultrasound to begin with?

As you wait to hear back from her, what are you doing this weekend to help get your mind off of all the possibilities running through your head?

I’ve had past kidney issues and have done CT , MRI and ultrasounds done in the last 11months for other things.
They found on scans T1 with T2 mass with lesions and blood work had some low levels such as white blood cells and potassium was extremely low…
My dr wants to send me back to nephrology (went in January) .
Feels like a run around.
The recent ultrasound was done to soley do on my kidneys due to checking for anything new or accumulating.
That is where the question I posted .. not sure what is going on.

Gosh, I'm sorry to hear that. Do you have access to a patient portal to ask a nurse on your team? Does the clinic have an office of patient experience?
