Does anyone else have word finding issues...

Posted by tookie @tookie, May 4, 2023

Hello. New on deck. My 2nd Covid in 08/2021 is where I seemed to have gained my soon to be Post Covid issues and like you... thetevare many. Question: Do any of you folks have or have had issues with word finding/retrieval? Its become so much part of my day to day life. Do you have anything that has helped you? TIA

Okay, that is hopeful. It almost been a year, but I am pretty functional. The worst was finding out last fall that I had thymoma cancer. The surgery was a total success. I am betting I will and thinking/feeling that I will get better. I, too, believe in how you think.
Thank you for sharing.

Yes. Time helps. Then I was reinfected this past 2/23 and have been experiencing word loss/ confusion among other symptoms, even worse than after my first infection 3/22.
Good luck to everyone. I’ve been through months of therapy and found that the passage of time is most healing.

I had Covid in July 2021 as a breakthrough case. Was pretty severe, yet managed at home. Lost my sense of smell that has never returned. Experienced exactly what you all are describing, brain fog where I can’t find the word I want to say.

Yes...Mine is when forgetting what i was saying mid sentence.
Also when i know what i want to say but but cant find the word
if that makes sense?

REPLY

Yes, while speaking to someone I just can’t fine the words in my head, especially peoples names.

Hi I’m new here.
I had covid 7/2020.
My brain fog is horrible. I can’t remember names like good friends. I can say everything about them but can’t say their name. Also the wrong words will come out. It’s crazy and I’m erased by it.

There is another posting by someone… anyways. They say they were put on Amantadine and it helped. You may want to look for that posting…

Ah. Found it. The heading is “has anyone taken Amantadine for brain fog…?”
That’s what you’ve got — “brain fog— although it never hit me as an accurate describing term! Read that post, see what you think.
( I’ve had long haul for the long haul— got Covid in 3/20)

Hi @deedavis. First you are in good company here with so many memory/cognitive post covid. Im over a yr long hauler and have done Speech Therapy referred exercises, crossword/word search/sudoku. ., for about half the time. Still have life affecting varying daily issues- couldn’t recall name of person Ive routinely dealt with almost 25 yrs 🙃. This indescribable journey is slow and steady and truly hope you can find the simplest “good” moments to realize your healing improvements and help cope/maneuver to further get back health !🌈

Yes ! Definite issues with word retrieval. I had a very rich vocabulary prior to Covid, now I search for words, especially when tired or stressed.
