I lost 80% of my hearing about 6 weeks ago after having covid. I can pop my ears and it returns for about 20 minutes. When I wake in the morning it is ok until I get up and move around and the hearing loss comes back. My head feels like it in a fog.

Have you seen an Ear Nose & Throat specialist? If so, are you receiving treatment?

No, I am not receiving treatment, although my doctor did prescribe some nasal spray which had no results he did however get me a referral for an August appointment. I thought maybe by joining the chat box someone may have some insight and suggestions.

@sweetelon Your issue is a bit different from others who have sudden hearing loss because you say it comes back for 20 minutes before going away again. You think this is related to having COVID. We know that sudden sensorineural hearing loss (SSHL) usually requires immediate treatment with steroids to have hearing loss return. Even then, it doesn't always turn out the way we hope it will. COVID may or may not be a causative factor.

I encourage you to get in to see an ENT specialist as soon as possible.

Does anyone in MCC have suggestions?

A few years ago I had a sinus infection which destroyed some of my hearing in the right ear. I saw an ENT doctor and we tried treating it but it was already too late and the loss was permanent. I have not heard of anyone that lost hearing after Covid and I would definitely see an ENT as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage. I wish you the best.

Did you go to an audiologist for a hearing test or an ENT to get checked out you might want to 80% is pretty severe. There could be a medication you could take for now to see if it gets better. If not, you might want to get on a list for hearing aids. I have heard of other people losing their hearing from having a bout of Covid. Good luck.

They are all crazy busy when I started my doctor and I lucked out with somebody had a cancellation in Sarah PA first, and then it’s just kind of snowballed from there, but at least they got me in for a hearing test right away, too so I know how bad it was. Good luck keep me posted.

Did you tell them you have Sudden
Sensory hearing loss? Someone should get you in on an emergency basis.
I lost total hearing one day, got in that same day to an ENT, but he thought it was a virus. I wasted valuable time.
After dealing with medications, I went to another doc and got steroid shots in my ear. But it was too late. I’m totally deaf in my right ear, and it won’t be coming back.
