Mark Hancer at Mayo Scottsdale listens to you and works with you to get to the bottom of your GI issues. When the typical approaches don't work (more meds), he thinks outside the box and suggested I try a pause in Metformin for 30 days. I was hesistant because I had been on this for 20+ years. I followed his suggestion and it changed my life. I could eat fiber again! Burping, bloating, abdominsl pain gone! I can sleep flat and don't have to take OTC antacids. Now just some nausea but significantly improved. Look for someone who will listen to you and think outside the box. Mark Hancer was that medical professional for me. I am so grateful to him for improving the quality of my life.
Mayo in Phoenix will not take new patients! I had surgery there for reflux and didn’t need to go for 3 years and won’t take me back! Appealed twice same answer, no. Will it take referrals either.

I had been a Mayo patient in FL 2011- 2016.
Last year I requested a new appointment because of reappearance of many symptoms.
I was denied- too long since last appointment. They claimed that I could get excellent care where I live. Not true locally. Charleston Medical University had been good to me but a bit far away. My Internist referred to a different good doctor associated with Savannah Medical University Hospital.
He’s excellent and I’m so lucky I met him. His name is Mark Murphy.
You can’t just pick your Dr. At Mayo Clinic Jacksonville. Plus I was on waitlist for 4 months then kept calling and finally got appt ( it was a televisit) like 4 months later .
Went up for 3 tests outpatient… in 3 days . Cost 3 k out of pocket w/ good insurance. Dr. Had same diagnosis that I already knew and really didn’t help me at all .
Keep looking elsewhere.
Try Cleveland Clinic maybe ?

Same here. Wanted to see a gastroenterologist. Thought maybe they could diagnose me. No one else seems to be able to pinpoint what is going on with me. Thought maybe they wouldn’t see me because I had Medicare. Who knows. Never been turned away for medical care.

I had Medicare. They submitted the forms and when I got the checks I forwarded them to Mayo. As I understand it they don’t work directly with insurance companies but they will fill/ send forms to insurance companies. A couple of times I had to pay something myself.
