Spotting Following Cortisone Injection

i am now 67. I have experienced this too. 2 back injections, both resulting in uterine bleeding and subsequent d&Cs with general anesthesia. the injection doctors had 'never heard of it' and the obgyn said 'yes it is a known side effect'. my shots worked great, but the d+Cs make it too dangerous to try again with my current back pain unless they can mitigate this risk somehow.

I bled for over 90 days and never got another shot! I was told this was a known side effect for women! I never was brave enough to get another shot due to this! I wish you good luck!!!

Twice now I have experienced post menopausal bleeding after receiving cortisone injections in my knees. The first time I bled for 50, yes 50 days, and had two benign endometrial biopsies. My doctor advised not to have injections in both knees at the same time.
The second time I had an injection in one knee and about 10 days later bled for 6 days.

I just posted a comment regarding bleeding after cortisone injections and now that I know it is not a sign of cancer I will not be worried when I have this side effect. BTW I had 2 endometrial biopsies that were benign. Just need to have sanitary napkins on hand!

I too have recently experienced this side effect. I am 67 and have been on HRT meds. I started spotting/bleeding 9 days after a cortisone injection in my shoulder. After enjoying NOT having a period for the last 20 years, this was quite alarming. I had an ultrasound, a paps test and a biopsy to rule out any problems. This initially lasted 14 days. A couple of days after it seemed to have stopped I had the biopsy, which resulted in another week of bleeding. I am hesitant to ever have a cortisone shot again unless there is some more information on this. No one at the orthopedic clinic had ever heard of this side effect, though there seems to be several studies out there on this. My gyn even seemed a bit skeptical.

I am 64 postmenopausal for 14 years. On 25th June 2023, I visited a physician as my right ear was blocked and had a ringing tone. It was right ear infection. The doctor administered me TENICORT - 40 INJECTION saying 'it is for immediate relief'. I got no relief, but had vaginal bleeding on 7th July 2023 (ie 12th day after taking the injection). I was to rush to my lady doctor, pelvic exam, ultrascan, biopsy followed as one can not neglect post menopausal bleeding. Biopsy came negative. By this time, I googled and found enough case studies which link this type of steroid injection to post menopausal bleeding. The bleeding can start anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 weeks. The problem is the side effect of post menopausal bleeding is mentioned for TRICORT-40 injection. What I was administered was TENICORT-40 injection. There is absolutely no information about TENICORT on net. The package claims same composition as TRICORT. It is 28 days, I am still bleeding a little each day. I hope it resolves itself. Does anyone know about TENICORT-40 injection?

I’m 63. I’ve had bleeding following back injections going back to 2018. I went to my gynecologist and never thought to mention the back injections the month before. He put me through tests, sonograms, biopsies, and I was put on progesterone for 6 months. Eventually in 2019 my gynecologist made the connection when I told him I had had back injections 2 weeks prior. However it never happened when I had knee injections. I assumed it had something to do with the back injections being done at a surgery center and possibly the injection site being closer to my uterus. Well recently I had a shoulder injection and I started bleeding 2 weeks following, and it was worse and lasted 2 weeks, unlike any previous times where it was mostly spotting for 5-6 days. I just found out that the doctor used Kenalog vs the Depo-Medrol he used in my knee. I wonder if Kenalog is the one to avoid. I will mention it to my gynecologist and see what he says.

My dr used depo-medrol for my knee injections but used Kenalog for my shoulder injection. I bled after the shoulder injections. Now I want to find out what my spine dr used when I had back injections because I also bled after those. I want to see if the side effect is more common with Kenalog. And wondering if it is still safe, despite the bleeding side effect.

These are steroid injections. Any injection which contains triamcinolone acetonide as the active ingredient has side effect of vaginal bleeding in post menopausal women. Triamcinolone acetonide belongs to a group of medicine called corticosteroids (steroids). Kenalog and Tricort, both contain Triamcinolone.

I’m 64. This my 3rd yr of knee shots appx every 3 mos. I have bleeding (sometimes w/small clots) & cramps like clockwork appx 5 days after shots that last appx 5 days. Got COVID 4 days after shots this last time & bleeding started 10 days after shots. Not stopped yet & on 10th day. Can’t see GYN for another 2 weeks.
