Hi Tom, that's one of the lovely colors we can turn as the blood that leaked into tissues during surgery begins to be absorbed and flushed away.
Unless hot or hard, or you have a fever, probably not concerning. If I had to guess, they're going to recommend a compression stocking andtor lymphatic massage.
Will you let me know what they tell you Tuesday?

Hi Sue,

My ortho PA visit went well today, even though my foot looked about the same when I took off my sock and rested the foot up on the foot stool...my PA said that the lower extremity swelling and ecchymosis around the ankle and foot were consistent with healing from total hip arthroplasty. No signs of DVT. No signs of cellulitis.
She recommended lying flat for 30 minutes three times a day with foot elevated and do ankle pumps...also, get rid of the stockings.... she said I was doing great for just three weeks out...wants to see me on May 10 for six week checkup...incision site looked great also...

Thanks so much for your response and interest

Yes, same thing happened to me after THR 10 months ago. I still wear a compression sock but the redness & swelling mostly resolved after ~5 months.
