I went through this after Covid as well. I simply could not find my words and became more forgetful. It was so frustrating. I couldn't take in a lot of things people were saying. I started writing things down more. I just called it "Covid Brain". I hope this encourages you....it got so much better but it took time. It's real and I believe it's a form of long Covid. It was like my brain was in a fog. I'm so sorry. God Bless you and I am praying for you!
Hi clover52. So many of us have this and so many varying ways the severity and effect on life. I literally have alarms set for anything like eating, pills, day might be able to shower, task like feed cat….Write anything down someone tells me and all things needing my response/attention on day planner as I wont remember to look at phone and sometimes cant figure out how to use it🙃. Hopefully your PCP can refer to Speech Therapist who is trained to help you find ways to improve cognitive function. Simple things like daily short time you can handle doing game, puzzle, crossword…( maybe 5 min and gradually add each week as most dont feel effect for couple of days to find their limit and always stop anything before you get tired or start feeling symptom start) Hope this helped and your husband reading this site may be of benefit as kind suggestion that has helped me “inform” others🌈
I had to go 'old school' and give up my phone/laptop calendar and appointment scheduling. I am 62 and did not enter the digital age until my 30's. My default operating system is pencil/post-it/paper. Getting off a screen for scheduling appointments and reminders has been very helpful. I also set alarms on my phone to get me out of the house on time or to remember to look at a day planner. Speech Therapy was a huge help! It never occurred to me that there are may stroke patients with memory impairment that are able to use different approaches to help. I put a post-it on my door with where I am going when I leave, then put it on the car dash to keep me from getting lost. My memory in and of itself has not improved but my management of it certainly has.
After 2 1/2 years Long COVID, I have a 6-Session appointment scheduled with Speech Therapy. Not until August (2023) though. They're that booked out. That will take me to almost 3 years before speech therapy. And that's only if I remember! 😏
Pleases go online & read " Central Sensitization ". Will give you cause and effect of PostCovidSyndrome brain fog. Lectures are MayoClinic doctors
I had COVID in June of 2022. Terrible brain fog after. I did 5 hyperbaric oxygen treatments at a local clinic (hospital was too expensive). The 5 treatments were $1,000, but it was worth it. 1 hour each at 2.0 atm for 5 straight days. I could tell there was improvement after the first treatment, and I was back to normal as far as cognitive function after 5 treatments. It didn’t help my muscle pain and weakness, but I’m glad to have my brain back!
