Does Medicare Part B cover sodium chloride solution?

Posted by lora jo @ljfoo, Mar 23, 2022

CVS says that neither Medicare Part D nor Medicare Part B covers the 3% or 7% sodium chloride I need. I've read on this discussion group that some of you have been able to get your sodium chloride covered by Medicare Part B. How did you do that? Is there a specific Diagnosis Code that your doctor has given your pharmacy? Can you ask your doctor what that code is? My pulmonologist is having a hard time figuring this out also.

Hi. I don't know if this would make any difference to your situation, but my doctor advised me to make my own sodium chloride 7% solution at home. Add one tablespoon non-iodized fine-grained salt to two cups boiled water, mix well, and keep refrigerated; use one-half tablespoon in your nebulizer. This recipe can be scaled down (I make it by the half cupful so it's not sitting in the fridge too long). Good luck!

Holey moley. You have such patience and good humor about it all. I didnt have that much trouble at the local Walgreens paying out of pocket for about $10 and change. I did detect increasing levels of annoyance from their end with my constant calling asking them to do this and that. I do hope you get your supplies after all that. Will update if I hear back from Medicare on my claim. Not holding my breath there either.
