Scheduled for bone biopsy what was your experience?

I’ve had 7 BMB without sedation. The first 2 were painful but doable. The last 5 I felt nothing but a little pressure. I believe the nurse practitioner made the difference. I won’t let anyone touch me but her. Also, anxiety can heighten the experience. That being said, don’t be afraid of sedation. Most important is to get it done and know where you stand with your disease.

I must be one of the lucky ones. They say redheads have high tolerance for pain. I experienced none. No general anesthesia. Had aspiration and biopsy the same day. Even the pressure some mention was so inconsequential almost not worth mentioning. Hope you have the same stress-free experience!

That’s great news. My biopsy was the procedure from hell. My doctor must have been an amateur. I don’t know. He was digging and scooping in my hip for like 20 minutes. I changed hospitals after that experience.

So sorry to hear that. I have had really good doctors along the way and also scarily incompetent ones. And how can you tell ahead of time what you’re getting into. Their sworn goal of “Do no harm” isn’t always in play. If we have a gut feeling of questionability, best not to ignore it I guess!

I have had BMB twice quick procedure, Pain was very short & dull. No nausea or any real discomfort afterwoods.

I had my third bone marrow biopsy done yesterday. All three were done with intravenous sedation. No pain or anxiety and only discomfort was when laying on the side of the procedure but so minor it was like a little bruise. Definitely do sedation if you can.

My BMB was done with just local anesthetic. The shot hurt more than the biopsy. With actual biopsy just felt pressure, which makes sense since they are going thru bone. The standby nurse kept tapping on my back, I think the distraction was good. My fear before was worse than the procedure....

I've had two so far using lidocaine by a PA. First one not too bad, just pressure. Second was also a procedure from hell. Done by a different PA, who told me I wouldn't have pain before she uses a lot of lidocaine. It was one of the most painful experiences. The hurt started with the shot and didn't stop. I was literally screaming and crying. The next time I am going to ask for IV sedation but I doubt they will do that.

IV sedation is the way to go. I slept through the whole thing
