I'm traveling to Rochester, MN from Kansas City, MO

Posted by Victory @hlthyskr, Jun 26, 2015

I'm traveling to Rochester, MN from Kansas City, MO for the first time in July. My actual appointment date is July 28th. I'm looking to find out how to get the cheapest flight through Delta and the closest hotel to the Mayo Clinic and least expensive hotel for two people. Can anyone help me get this information? Thank you very much for your help!

You may want to check flight options both to MSP and to RST. Sometimes it's cheaper to fly all the way to RST (with a layover in MSP), or otherwise you can pick up a shuttle at the airport (gorochesterdirect.com) for your MSP to Rochester leg. The shuttle will drop you off at any of the hotels. As for hotels, I would suggest looking on Priceline or Hotels.com and look for proximity to Mayo Clinic. Otherwise, you should know that almost all of the hotels in Rochester have a shuttle to Mayo Clinic, even if they aren't in easy walking distance. I hope this helps.

Thanks for your help! I've booked my flight and reserved my hotel this week already with the Mayo Clinic Travel Agent. If there happens to be a next time I will probably make my flight reservation directly with Delta, because I've found that their prices are cheaper. After going through several websites I was having trouble deciding on a good hotel and I do believe that I got a good price quote for a good hotel with the travel agent. Thanks for your help and information!

Good luck find help at the Mayo. I was there at the end of 2012 and had surgery 1/16/2013. They are the best. The nicest people around. Very helpful. I hope you have a great experience.

can you tell me if they do any required testing such as CT, MRI, so on on the first visit. I cannot figure out how long to stay.

Welcome to Connect, @elizabethcharis.
Sometimes testing is done on the first visit. May I ask what your visit is concerning? Then I can connect you with others who have been to Mayo Clinic for a similar condition and they will share their experiences with you.

Thank u so much for the reply. I just started freaking out today about the
traveling and wondering how much time I should be there, so I'm thrilled to
be "connected." The panic is due to fear of having to make 2 trips for the
testing.

I'm driving and have a hotel as long as needed as i was told by the
registration dept that they do testing at the time of the appointment.

Driving will cause me such agony in my neck, jaw and head. But I just
discovered from a CT scan the extent of damage to my sinuses and shattered
septum from the first of 3 jaw surgeries. I sent in records and requested
to be seen by an ENT upon discovering that damage. I do not feel good about
the pain of flying with that intense pressure and dizziness in my head.

The jaw is what my Mayo appointment is for (oral maxillofacial dept). The
bones never healed after any of the surgeries and the hardwire broke down
each time (non union). It is held together with titanium plates which have
now broken.

Sorry long winded, I'm stressed today. Lol. Thank u again so very much.
Elizabeth, I can understand being stressed about your first visit to Mayo Clinic. Were you given a number to call from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department? They should be able to give you specific answers about the timing of tests on your first visit.

It helps to here from others who have been there. So, I'm tagging some of the members from the Visiting Mayo Clinic group who have been to Mayo Clinic for a variety of conditions, although not to the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

@rosemarya, @cynaburst, @audrapopp, @allegro, @HeartPatches, Elizabeth specifically asks about getting tests done during the first visit to Mayo and you have all spoken before about the efficiency of testing. She would like to avoid having to make the long drive several times. Any insights?

I can help answer about my first visit to Mayo in Jacksonville back last December I was told to spend about week. Now I was going there for a colonoscopy/EMR, plus a bunch of other testing. But I was told to expect to stay at least a week and be prepared to stay longer if need be.
I wish you the Best.. Mayo Clinic Hospitals are one the best Hospitals with Out of this World Doctors, TOP NOTCH. 🙂

Mayo clinic is extremely efficient with their scheduling My results were already with my doctor when I had my appointment later in the day. Sometimes, when additional tests/procedures were necessary, my schedule was adjusted to accommodate those. I know that it is stressful to be facing uncertainty, but I think I can honestly say that you will not wait very long to receive the information about your diagnosis and treatment possibilities. Take a list of your questions with you. Hope this helps.
Try to smile. Think positive. Have a safe trip. Rosemary
