Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) Surgery Options
I had a Urolift procedure last February for my BPH symptoms and it was a total failure. The implants are still in position though. I am looking for a different procedure to alleviate my BPH problem and Rezum seems to be a good alternative. Can it be done considering my prior Urolift procedure. If not, what would be your recommendation.

Yes, I’m doing well! I got up once last night to use the bathroom. My flow rate seems very good, sometimes it makes me smile because I feel so lucky about how it turned out. I stopped taking medication the day of surgery, I’m feeling great and I am very grateful for the outcome.
I also had the PAE procedure and the results have been FANTASTIC!!!!!
How many days did you stay in Jax post op? I live in Tallahassee which is about a 3 hr drive from Jax.
I live about 2 1/2 hours south of JAX. I reported to the Mayo at around noon for some afternoon pre-op tests. I spent that night (first night) in the hotel on campus. Next day I went into surgery for the HOLEP procedure…after leaving the recovery room, stayed the second night in the hotel on campus where hospital staff help would be available if needed. The next morning, went to the hospital to have the Foley removed. Because we were not local, the procedure is for us to stay the third night at the hotel. The following morning, I went for a test to insure everything was good….and then went home. It was easy moving between the hotel and the hospital as it is within easy walking distance….or hotel shuttles run every 10-15 minutes. Hope this answers your question!
Hello, like Kayak461 I had HoLEP surgery a few years ago, in September 2020. In fact, my surgeon was Dr. Amy Krambeck, who is featured in the video shown in this blog. I had to have surgery due to severe urine retention which ultimately caused kidney damage and forced me to self-cath from when it was discovered in August 2020 until the surgery. Dr. Krambeck and her whole team were great, and the procedure completely solved my urination problem. Since it was a medical necessity, the whole procedure was covered by insurance. I live in MN and had not problem scheduled with Dr. Krambeck in Chicago. I have written a lot about my experience on this blog before, and you should be able to find that. If not, or if you have questions for me, feel free to ask. Best of luck.
I have an appt with Dr. Dora on Tuesday morning to discuss the HoLEP procedure.
That’s great! Dr. Dora did HOLEP on me…..you are in great hands! Let me know if I can answer any questions for you! Keep us informed!
How long was catheter in place? Did you have any incontinence?
If you had incontinence how long did it last?
How did you make out with Dr. Dora? I would bet that you are scheduled!!
I finished surgery in late afternoon on Tuesday, exited the hospital at about 8:00PM and went to the hotel….with the catheter in place. I went back to the hospital the next morning….at 9:00 AM and had the catheter removed. I stayed that day and night, and after a great pee test….went home. I couldn’t believe at how quickly I could vacate my bladder! As for incontenence, almost none…but just a little for a few days. I had a small amount of leakage that went away after about 4 weeks. Hope this helps!
