Is there a way to prevent diverticulitis from recurring? Is there a change in diet that can help heal the colon issue that causes it?

Good questions. I'm following this.

Konsyl psyllium fiber or Metamucil. And Galt immune butyric acid.

My doctors’ nurse has bouts of diverticulitis and she gave me great advice. When you feel an attack coming on cut out all roughage.
Stick to fluids, no dairy except a good probiotic yogurt. Be gentle on your tummy until the symptoms subside. Drink lots of water is the key and never allow yourself to get constipated. Mirolax if you do. I was eating all kinds of healthy roughage and taking Metamucil when I was having an attack. It made it worse. Once I started the kindness to my tummy routine I improved rapidly. Hope that helps.

The best way to keep from getting more diverticuli is to prevent constipation by taking adding fiber and magnesium citrate to your diet each day. Licorice Root is lubricating to the intestinal wall. What you definitely don’t want to happen is Diverticulitis which is inflamed Diverticuli.
It helps to Google about

Thank you for your comment. I have had to resort to antibiotics when things have gotten really bad. The Butyric I’m still looking into with a pharmacist friend of mine. It makes me hopeful reading some of the research around it. I will update you when I know more.

It needs to be monitored because of the possibility of a infected Diverticuli rupturing and causing a serious infection of the colon. The Diverticuli can burst and leak bowel contents into the abdominal cavity if you have Diverticulitis.

I find that so frustrating. No way to treat long term and no cure. Soft diet and loose stool seems the only way to manage the flare-ups. I thought our bodies were pretty amazing at healing themselves with the right diet. Is this the exception?

My husband used to get diverticulitis on an occasional basis for several years. It has been 2 years now since he has had an attack. The only change he has made was adding a probiotic pill to his diet.

About 3 months ago, after a colonoscopy, I was told I had diverticulosis and a fistula but he didn't say where the fistula was or what it was. I had to research the Internet to find out what diverticulosis and a fistula was. Somedays, I am just fine, but then, wham bam here I am again.
I was feeling fine for the past four days and tonight I ate ice cream for dessert and wham bam. Could ice cream be bad for diverticulosis?
